That's always expected from Canon users
And for this model you know it will be absolutely out of control (probably reaching a frenzy as soon as there are some crappily executed comparison shots posted on DPReview).
This release is the tightest one yet. Only one date announced, a random invitation to an Aussie event, and a couple of dealers whispering. Nothing concrete at all, is there?
Makes you wonder what secret new goodies Canon will be announcing.
cmoooon 2 Direct Print buttons!!
Nah, one for your own printer, one for your mates. Canon are big on the printing social networking fad. You can now print dirty pictures on your unsuspecting friend's home printer.
Anyway, I'm beginning to suspect that the Oct 20 date is going to be similar to last year's 5D II announcement. First the press were all told about it secretly (remember the Hawaii thing?), then Canon announced it to us a fair bit later on.
Here's hoping Oct is actually the announcement date to the general public.
I have been told by a reliable source (very close to the proverbial horses mouth) that there is an embargoed announcement scheduled for Tuesday next week. OK, it could be a new vacuum cleaner or the first Canon hybrid car but my money (literally) is on a 1DMkIV.

It's true. The camera is mui buena.
Canon Canada insisted I take part in the preproduction unit AF testing, on behalf of the WW Ducks Unlimited. I says, OK boyz, but in return I get the first DIF publication rights. Not Arthur, not Jimbo, but little old me. Well, they've consented.
So here it is, the first DIF shot with the 1DMk IV.
(Please note, that was a preproduction unit. Also, the AF system requires some more study, analysis and optimization fine tuning. However, so far so good, I must say. Beautiful image quality, lottsa depth and DR, no ISO noise to be seen.)
