All but #4 are good. Panning when they're coming at you at 45 degrees is always a challenge

Nice set Great IQ on all except #6

#1 Looks technically correct...just something about the crop that does not work. There is definitely a great picture in there

#2 killer shot. I would just drop the lighting a touch on the very top

#3 Nice - crop out the outer 2 ;-)

#4 Nice crop, lots of action

#5 Great sense of speed

#6 oof

#7 Like it - nice background with some depth to it

#8 A little oof. The orange brake really goes good with the green car

Thanks for the comments all.
As far as #6. The focus landed on the tip of his nose...so, yes the eyes and mouth are out a bit.

most won't like #4, but as a fan of ALMS, I think that shot conveys the feeling and the essence of that team, they drive with a frenzied pace not matched by the other drivers, some would call them reckless, and I think that image embodies that, and for that I love it. I don't know if that was your intention, but it is nicely done none the less.

Thanks again for the input guys.
Artflake, as far as #4, no my intention was not directed to that car in that way. My goal with this shot was the composition. I wanted the two cars at the opposite ends of the frame and to show a lot of motion on the first car. This is a low percentage shot due to the slow shutter speed and looking for two cars that had the right distance between them. Some may like to see the entire car in focus when panning. I do it both ways, sometimes the whole car in focus and other times, just the helmet or front of the car.

Why do you feel "most won't like #4"? Its a great photo and I can appreciate the effort to get that specific shot. The blur oozes motion and speed...the helmet and cockpit of the car are in focus. Well done Jeff. Great set.

Jeff, good to see folks trying to push the craft, I like the way you thought that one out, I can read that more went into getting that shot than the rest of them, and for that, I like it a lot.

jimil, a couple have already said it, Rags said all but #4 is great, I think too many people want a lot of the car in focus, or too much of the shot. Those that can read it for what it is trying to show, like you did, get it, and understand the concept that the shooter had in their head when they were standing there. Too many people look at it and think, OOF, it is trash. to be clear, I love the shot, I think it is the best of the set, for all the reasons that Jeff mentioned, what you said, and the way I view it, it has a lot of what I try to put into my work, telling a story, capturing a moment, conveying an emotion...not just taking a picture of a race car, or anything else for that matter.

artflake, now I understand your statement. Thanks for clarifying and I do agree with what you said. I find that with similar shots that I've taken, that for the most part, only other photographers really appreciate it for what it is. Like you mentioned, most will want the the whole car in focus. In the end, if one is in the business to sell motorsports photos, you would want to take the shots that customers want.

Cheers!
