2 1/4 used to be 24-25 pounds and the 35 used to be 19. I recall because I was killing time at a site that had a scale once. So have no idea what the digi gear weighs but it's less than either of them and replaces both, double win.

Tripod+bag: 20 lbs. Including 5D2, 70-200/2.8IS, 100/2.8, 50/1.8, Tamron 28-75/2.8. I'm happy with this kit but I admit that the weight sometimes bothers me.

Usually I don't take it all out: my maximum vademecum kit is a monopod, two lenses + two cameras + 1.4xTC converter. Even that happens once in a blue moon. Typically one camera/lens.

I suppose one extreme way of thinking is that you'd have every contrievance for all imaginable targets, scenes and scenarios.

My amateur philosophy falls into the opposite extreme: with one camera/lens I will shoot anything that catches my eye, as long as the equipment sort of allows it.

After I buy a new Canon S90 camera, my photo kit is only going to weigh seven ounces.

Hm, for what purpose?

Weddings: an easy 60lbs... the more primes I get, the heavier it seems to become! Although I only carry two bodies + lenses at a time, most of it gets used.
Portraits: maybe 10lbs - two cameras, two or three lenses
Wildlife: at least 35lbs - 20 of it in the 400/2.8
Landscapes: around 15lbs, including tripod (one camera, one or two lenses, accessories)
Lifestyle / sports: probably around 90lbs - includes everything from wedding stuff, plus the two big teles (300 & 400), not counting support & stands

It usually takes me two trips to get it to the car when going all-out: TT roller, TT backpack, TT laptop bag, two TT tripod bags

And add in one duffel of climbing / alpine / outdoor gear at another 40-50lbs and you've got a trunkful!

Complete kit? Well over 100 lbs.

But then I don't ever take the whole kit... generally only a couple of bodies and 6-8 lenses.

+1 - It fills a Pelican 1650 (which weights 28 lbs empty) plus a Pelican 1600...and that does not include lights, backdrops, and props.

Whole kit? I don't even want to think about it...

I bet I pack an easy 100+ to a wedding in one trip. Then I come back to the car for some other stuff on occasion.

70-200 2.8
24-70 2.8
14 2.8
50 1.4
