If you don't like em don't read his posts leave the guy alone and go shoot something. I for one love the fact that I can reach the guy who makes the lights and modifiers i shoot with.

Recently I come back to this site because I got so much information of Paul's products. That is all I need, and Paul is very helpful, too.

But they come here asking.

They do come here asking, but he recently shut down the forum on his website, so...

people ask questions on lots of forums. Deezie has a bug up his posterior about PCB. PCB can be argumentative & defensive too. try to ignore the noise and glean the info you need where you can.

Rule number 5 on the forum seems fairly straightforward to me "No SPAM, advertisements, schemes, or fictitious announcements."

I guess it would depend on how you define advertisement or spam. Would an identical post 'giving info' about new products under three different threads in a half hour constitute spam or an advertisement?

Oh and Jeremy, those were some great drummer shots btw. That kit was insane.

I would normally agree with you statement about three posts on three threads. The reason in this case was that these three threads were are essentially three arms of the same thread and were permeated with requests for the information I supplied and had promised to supply.

In terms of "promotion", the large body of the post was intended to discourage casual readers from rushing into Cyber Commander with the thinking that it is a simple "magic" device that will make their life wonderful with no effort. The remainder of the post was to provide a progress report in response to dozens of questions posters were asking, clarifying rumors.

Forums are places people go to find out the good, bad and ugly about the field they are interested in, and are usually loaded with wrong information. My participation usually follows and addresses incorrect or malicious information. It's not about promotion or sales.

I would love to see other industry leaders and competitors do the same as there are plenty of false rumors constantly spread about manufacturers, developments and product pros and cons.

As a person, I am in an unusual position in that I don't depend on sales and marketing people to be my voice . . . I am the creator, engineer and developer of my products . . . the primary source of information and the sole owner of the company. As such, I would welcome friendly and constructive debate with others in my position, and I believe forum members would gain useful information in the process.

It is ultimately up to Fred, in concert with his followers, as to whether he wants to allow such information and.or debate, and that is exactly why I put up the poll and included participation by competitors in the questions.

I certainly don't want to be here if my input is not wanted.

Dear Ellis, Paul, & Friends

Amen to that!

Ignoring the noise is a key skill in gleaning information from any public forum.

There was noise on Paul's own forum that I easily ignored. For some reason, Paul couldn't ignore some of that noise.

When people are throwing turds at one another, I try to get out of the way and make my way to fresh air.

Assholes with keyboards have a strong presence on the Internet. But so do knowledgeable, generous, and helpful people.

The vocal minority versus the reality of the majority here is in black and white re: poll results. I don't see the need for further discussion.

That's why I did multiple posts where these questions were asked. Now you can make it four posts because this member asked the question in this thread because he didn't see the other posts. Perfectly normal behavior. You'll see the same questions over and over in all forums

Its real easy.. I just type. Is this the kind of thread where I may not pose questions?

This reads like the normal PCB thread.. Paul makes a statement or answers a question and then a full page of bashing...

I love the PCB stuff, and I'm glad Paul takes the time to answer on a board... what other major player has it top rep answering questions from the lowly masses? I say thanks Paul, and please keep doing what you are doing..

Paul,

I think your contributions have been, for the most part, very enlightening, and I your knowledge of both studio lighting and the industry is valuable. Please stay around, and keep putting your two bits in!

WTF. When did this become about me? Paul asked for opinions from members and I gave one. Diplomatic and without insult.

Here's my quote: "There are plenty of posters here who own Paul's gear that are more than capable of speaking of the virtues and vices of his gear. If posters want to find out detailed specs and other esoteric minutiae from Paul, they can reach him any time at his website."

Does this poll become a pissing contest because one guy doesn't run with the crowd?

I'm really very pleased to get the level of information you provide, Paul. I can't get anything near this with most other lighting manufacturers (barring one who is in the same city as me). As long as you're around, I'll be happy to read.

Well, Canon USA does have Chuck Westfall out there, but Chuck won't put up with any more static than Paul will. Less, actually.
