Hi Robert

You could consider the Fractalius filter.

Dick.

I have Fractalius, but Topaz Simplify along with Topaz Clean 2 do a better job for illustration. This was done with Topaz Sinmplify 2

"Dick on Aruba" seemed to offer something no one else did an got flamed for it, Really imagine getting the "police action" by adding an image on a photographic thread.

Just a visitor and I'll leave you all to it .. regards

Use topaz all the time for commercial work. Sometimes to make "art" and sometimes just to add something undefinable to a photo. Many times a photo we receive is not perfect, but a Topaz filter of some kind can elevate the image. Adding just a little Topaz clean to a photo that will display on an iPhone makes it show up so much better. Even if it looks overly done on a monitor, looks great on the iPhone. My commercial design portfolio has all been filtered by Topaz to looks it's best on the iPhone. And the above illustration is a good example of clean taken to a full illustrative style. Topaz has really taken off since starting and adds more new techniques all the time.

Pandacat's building illustration post is great. As offered, I would love to hear that technique added in detail on this thread. Nice architectural illustration application.

Good Lord! Please excuse me. It was a mistake.

I usually stay in the Buy & Sell side of tthese forums. Much more open discussions there.

Again, I apologize for intruding.

Hope I don't get bashed around. oh. No, won't be posting any examples.

I use Photoshop filters some times, Topaz filters (Topaz Simplify is a good one for this purpose - but I find that faces often are not well converted) other times. Also, you can work on "smudge" technique. Smudging is more time-consuming, but I like the effect of smoothing out cartoon lines that Topaz will put in.

Have not tried the fractalus plugin but it looks like it might be a good one to have.

Usually I find that you have to work on a picture to prepare it for whichever filter you use, and then touch up the filtered artwork.

robert61,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but is it something like this one?

I was recently looking for something like this after tinkering with different methods in PS. The Topaz Simplify filter did an amazing job on that photo - wow! Thanks for sharing the images (a thread such as this with images is much more useful than without).

The picture posted is of the Tower in Lake Placid Florida. The article was printed in the April issue of Photoshop User magazine that gave the step-by-step on how to do it. I think the mag used a jazz horn player as it's example. But I loved the technique and it worked beautifully for my shot.

Since the technique was published in a magazine article, am I allowed to post the step-by-step instructions in this thread? Does anybody know Scott Kelby personally? If it's OK, I will post the instructions.

To do a copy/paste of the article would be a breach of copyright without their permission.

However there are a couple of alternatives i can think of:
1) If the magazine article is reproduced on their website, publishing a link to it will be in order...
2) send it via a pm to the interested party

Yeah, that's along the lines I was thinking. I did a quick check of the site before I left and didn't find anything then. I will do a more detailed search later tonight.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Just got back from taking a sail boat down to the Keys. They needed it down there for a Christmas cruise. No internet for the past few days. Now if this keyboard would just stop swaying around!!
