p.1 #1 · Anyone know how to turn a photo into an illustration?
Searched Google and here, but didn't really find anything like I was looking for (it will require more than surface blur).
I've seen "pin up" type shots, 40's era, that starts with a photo but ends up looking almost like an illustration. The amount of this effect varies somewhat, but that is the overall idea. It looks like a somewhat "photo realistic" illustration, but it starts as a photo.
Anyone here care to share such a technique or have a link that discusses this?

Dick on Aruba...really, adding your image to another persons thread is not cool.
Start your own thread so as not to intrude on another, person.
A apology is in order.

This picture was part of a post on this forum a little while ago. Its purpose is to be a sample of the filter I suggested. I feel this picture will show enough details to be a valid sample.
If this sample isn't an offense to the starter of this thread, than no harm done. I can't really see why it would be a disturbance to you or anyone for that matter.

You show yourself as ugly as your work is beautiful. Can't really be derailed by this for we all humans and the sun rise for one and all. Sigh...all in a days life.

Strange, I have never seen any artwork in this forum from the loudest of you posting in this thread.
You guys teem out of the woodwork for matters that don't concern you at all.
I agree with Jordan.
We had this conversation a few weeks ago when others were posting in my thread.
Dick, you saw that didn't you?
There is a level of civility we are accustomed to in this forum.
And we'd like to keep it that way... those of us who have a reason to be here.

So much nastiness here.... I didn't know that there was a qualifier to be here. I haven't seen a test that you have to pass or a level of skill that you have to posses to post here.
Where does this elitism come from?
We know which of you are more skilled than some others... God bless you for your talent ... but aren't we a bit lacking in social graces?
I've had folks post over my work... that isn't the same as offering an example to a question that has been posted.
PS I'm signing off now so take your best shot... but I won't be around to see it.

In my experience the image needs a curve that increases contrast (to move closer to a line drawing) and then a posterization that reduces the number of colors in the image. It takes some hand work to take out stray items that are not directing the viewer to your point of interest. I've never seen a single click filter that can accomplish the effect you are looking for, but several used in combination can get you close. Then its how much time are you willing to devote to finish the image.
Please post again if you find something that works for you.
