What would a D300 with 100K clicks, in otherwise very clean condition, with all accessories and box, be worth ?
I checked the BST here and Ebay, but couldn't find any with that many actuations.
I know that they are rated (whatever that means) for 150K clicks, and that one could probably take the selling price of used, low-click D300s and subtract the cost of a replacement shutter from that, but I have no idea what a shutter replacement would cost.
Further, it seems like that value would be a conservative one, since I'd *guess* the 150K is itself a conservative estimate, and since most people wouldn't put 50K clicks on before they moved on.
IMO 800-1000. Not telling you what to do but you can price it for $1,800 and wait around... someone will buy it. Some people have no clue what they buy, but who can blame anyone. Buyer beware.
Also just because it's rated 150k doesn't mean it will blow up or stop working when time comes up. The ones that use it for sports can go bad at 100k due to the shutter rate.
Thanks for the replies guys. I picked up one for a relative song, then - cosmetic condition is very good. I was thinking about selling my low-shutter count D300 - which I never use - and keeping this one. I barely use my D300 as it is, once I got the D700, but keep it around "just in case" - and for when my kids start playing sports. Probably only put a few hundred clicks in the last year or so.
Then I started thinking about selling the one I just bought, since I wouldn't be covered by warranty on the used one.
I just sold a D300 with 20,000 clicks. It went for $950 shipped. I started out at a $1000 and no one wanted it. You might be looking at below 800 atleast. 700 even.

Not good for me, I guess, but I find it fascinating that 20K clicks would be worth maybe a few hundred dollars when the shutter life is rated many times that and a shutter replacement seems to run a few hundred dollars.
As for me, I know there's no way I'm putting 50K clicks on it, so if the price differential between high/low clicks is that much I might just end up keeping the 100K D300 and selling my other one and pocketing a few hundred bucks.

Priceless! If I kept a body around that long, I'd just keep it. One, because the money I would make by selling it would likely just be a dent toward the purchase of the replacement. Secondly, I would know how to use it so well, I would dread learning a new body's ins and outs. Plus, the level of competency I would have in using a body I've used for that much would make me a better shooter versus fumbling around/dealing with the learning curve of the replacement. Lastly, I'd be so proud of myself for keeping a body around for that and keeping my NAS in check, I would just have to keep just for sentimental value....
p.s. I sold both my D300 bodies, one with 5k and the other with 11k actuations, both for $1100. This was around the time the D90 came out.

There is no proof that shooting at high frame rate impacts the shutter any more than taking one shot at a time.

Sounds right to me. With the replacement model shipping, used prices take a pretty quick hit.

Actually, Mr. Bean, numerals can be considered ambiguous plurals, in which case the use of an apostrophized 'S' is acceptable in all but the most formal styles of writing.
