I don't miss more noise and less dynamic range at all. Bought an 800 to compensate for loss of reach.

No crop for me again. My FF lenses are closer to what they are supposed to be in 1D2. So, my next DSLR has to be FF, like a 5D3 or 1Dsx. A used1D2 is still a lot cheaper, around $1K than a new 7D(with the grip, close to $2K+ taxes), especially if you need the vertical grip. With the grip and two batteries, the weight difference is probably not as big. Also, the dual slot memory card feature provides a peace of mind when I am shooting a wedding for money. 7D is a pretty great camera for the price they are asking for if you are looking to buy new, and I hope the 7D is as good as the 1 series so that I can get upgrade my 1D2 to another 1 series body cheaper.

The good news is that Canon can make a APS-C with such high pixel density and still get the noise controlled in a reasonable level. I think the next 1D3 or 1Ds3 will have a lot more MP at good quality, and the 5D3 can stay below them with lower resolution with close to our dream 3D features.

I miss the crop a little bit for long telephoto shots, but definitely not for high ISO shots. I wouldn't trade my MKIII for anything right now. And the MKIV will have to be damned good for me to consider trading up for it, whenever it comes out.

I'm going to be the lone dissenter here. I do (somewhat) miss the 1.6 crop of the 40d since I moved to the MkIII. All else being equal, if I could have the MkIII with a 1.6 crop instead of a 1.3 I'd make the move in a heartbeat. Wouldn't go back to the 40d (although IMO it's a great value), but to me more reach = better. Might look seriously at the 7d as a replacement to my 40d as a backup, however.

Me too, its the one fault I find with the 1DMKIIN, always need more reach

no... but then I tend to shoot under 100mm, for which a FF or APS-H body offers many more lens options.

I know you're not asking the same question for those of us who had/have a 1.6 and upgraded to the 5D or 5D2, but I have noticed I rarely use my Rebel XSi now that I have the 5D2. I plan to keep it as my second camera, but my first choice is the 5D2. The Rebel is still a great, lightweight camera for travel or easy use.

I use a 1DsII now as a jack of all trades camera but can see a possible two camera setup in the future. Medium format for slow-pace low ISO work and 7D for birds/travel.

I will never own just a crop again, never. That said, I think I'd like the pixel density of a crop body with pro AF for birding and so I will most likely pick up a 7D and add it to my current bodies and see how it works out from Bosque in December to the spring birding season next year.

+1 That's the main reason I pre-ordered the 7D. I am planning to go to Bosque a month earlier though...
