I heard from a Canon Pro about the 60D. That's why the 50D is no longer being produced.
I am also hoping for the Mk IV to be announced.

No doubt Canon would benefit from putting the 1d3 AF controversies behind them, so a 1d4 makes sense from a marketing perspective even if its not a quantum upgrade from the existing camera.

50D is already discontinued?If you're right ,Ray,this means 60D is coming for sure(and It will be an aps-h dslr since 50D's sensor it can't be improved with today technology(only 4,7 pixel pitch is too small-look at the OLY E 620 and E 30; ISO 800 pictures it looks horible just like the first digital cameras back in 2000).

An educated guess is that the 60D = 50D + HD Video to complete Canon's lineup. New features typically show up in the digital Rebel line first, and then show up in the XXD line afterwards (the one exception was that the XXD line skipped the 12Mp sensor from the XSi). No need for more megapixels since the 15Mp T1i and 50D already "beat" nikon who "only" have 12Mp.

The 1D-MKIII replacement will be announced because:

1D announced Sep 2001 in time for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
1D-MkII announced Jan 2004 in time for the 2004 Summer Olympics.
1D-MkIIn announced Aug 2005 in time for the 2006 Winter Olympics.
1D-MkIII announced Feb 2007 allowing enough time for Nikon to kick Canon's butt for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

It's not too hard to figure out that the 1D-MkIV will be announced now in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics (hopefully not allowing enough time for Nikon to surprise them again).

No sign of that on the european markets. The 40D is certainly going (discounts and bundles everywhere and dwindling stock), but the 50D is in stock and has only a cursory promotion. I think the 50D is here to stay for a while yet. The question is perhaps more about whether canon will go back to marketing a single xxD or will continue the double lineup that they've had for the last year or so. And if the latter, what price bracket will they market at? Seems to me that with the Rebel line so busy they might try pitching the xxD's a little higher than they have been.

The price of a 24-70L IS would be double that of the 24-105L IS at launch IMO and that alone and the fact the 24-105 is much lighter will still make it popular. Also using that argument you would say the 70-200 f/2.8L IS kills off the 70-200 f/4L IS.

I didn't think it would be IS, but I'm not so sure now. Canon surprised us with the TS-E lenses being super rotators and they might surprise us again. It would be another way to offer an advantage over Nikon's new 24-70 too.

If this is true, then the 50D was a panic product to quickly redress features the D300 had. They would have been better waiting until March to release the 50D with video and spent the extra 6 months improving the AF. It'd be pathetic if the 60D is just a HD video'd 50D.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Too soon for 60D and 1Ds IV and they probably won't release 1D IV until PMA next year, so that leaves 1000D for update.

But I have my fingers crossed for the 1D IV.

However, I do expect some new lenses to be announced, including 70-200 f/2.8L IS II and a macro with hybrid IS.

we might see a 60D since that wouldleave canon very weak in the video department compared to nikon for an awfully long time, maybe a 50Dv

the 1d4 seems rather due and they might want it proven before the olympics, can't see them waiting until PMA.

but the low number rumors and no leaked links on canon pages

etc. seems odd, either they caught all teh leakers by using disinformation like with the 3.2" screen size rumors or they decided the best impact is suddent with no build-up feeling the 5d2 moon thing backfired a little (then again they do like how the 5d2 sales are going....) so maybe there is nothing much on the low end, just a 50v and on then the big 1d4 in sept.

The EOS 1000D can wait for its successor at PMA 2010, which clashes with the Winter Olympic Games next February. It will be Nikon's turn to announce something big during PMA, in anticipation of next summer's World Cup Soccer.

Canon will return the favour by announcing its successor to the 1Ds III in Photokina 2010 to be held in September '10.
