sigma is a nice alternative if money is an important consideration.
however, it is not in the same league at canon's 35L.

the 35L is one of canon's finest lens.

Agreed!! Canon's 35 is the best I have shot. A lovely little lens!

Thanks for the response. I'll keep putting my money aside for the Canon.

Sigma 30 is a nice lens for the price, has nice contrast, pretty sharp in the center and a nice focal length on a crop body, but the 35L sings on the 5D, which your profile says you have, since you can't really use the Sigma on the 5D, the 35L seems to makes more sense.

I use the 35L more than any other lens.

I'm not sure that that's really fair. I've not used the 35L but every direct comparison review I have read has said that the Sigma is about as sharp and not far off in terms of overall IQ.

Of course if the OP is on FF then the queston is moot.

I didn't realize the Sigma was for cropped body, that solves the problem.
Thanks again to all that replied.

i have both and keep all (sigma for 1.6x and canon for FF). I dont want to part with sigma because of its size, as far as sharpness, its almost hard to tell the difference between both.

here's the comparison pics

35L have bigger size of 100% crop picture due to 5mm difference (only changed the lens & didn't move the tripod during the test)
