If you could only pick one AF lens to put in your bag ... along with your MF alts, which one would it be?

Main criteria being a lens that has 'that' look ... whatever 'that' is for you.

70-200 f4L IS, its so consistently great along side my other MF lenses for sharpness.

I love my Canon 200mm f/2.8L II. It is cream city in bokeh, and it barely gets sharper as you stop down. It is also very well balanced...a trait that Canon seems to feel is entirely optional in their lens line-up.

I really only have the 70-200 f/4 IS, so.....that one. I think its pretty comparable to what I saw from my Zeiss lenses.

Just starting a collection of alts, but my current fave is a humble Oly 50mm 1.8. Its got the right breeding for this particular type - silver nose, serial #, Japan made - but the characteristics that thrill a newbie like me are its deep contrasts and wonderful warm color. Its bokeh is a beautiful (to me) swirl, which is apparently a function of its narrow objective element. I now search pawn shops looking for the unrealized gems to add to my collection.

Woe is me.

85L 1.2 ii sucks in light, from a distance and is nearly unholy in nature.

Most Of My Favorite AF Lenses Are Alts .... (Converted N's)
So It's A Little Tricky To Pick ... But Like brainiac The 200mm f1.8 Is A Winner.

I'm not sure if you mean alternative AF lens or whatever AF lens? I'd choose the only AF lens I got; the Nikkor 24-70.

As far as having that unique look: Sigma 50 f/1.4. I've had a LOT of MF 50s, and the Sigma 50 has the best look of all of them, with AF as a nice bonus! Beautiful rendering.

The BEST AF lens I own, though, is likely the 70-200 f/4L IS...it's just phenomenal. Prime-like sharpness, wonderful color, fast, accurate AF and 4 stop IS. It's a gem. I also can't leave the Sigma 150 f/2.8 macro out of the discussion.....so there are a lot!

Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 DC Macro. It's a 17mm DX-crop prime with reach. Surprisingly sharp, fast and compact at 17mm, excellent close-focusing (1:2.3 at 70mm and MFD) and a zoom lock at 17mm that allows you to use it as a 17mm prime until you need the extra reach. I had one of these essentially glued to my K10D and I'll probably get another if I end up getting the K-7. The colour was also unusually nice for a Sigma, without the usual mild yellow cast.

Whatever AF lens ... not a lot of true alt AF's out there besides Conurus conversions ... most are simply third party/ aftermarket / non-OEM.

Makten, I was expecting to see your Samyang on the list ... I forgot it was MF.
