The yak, an 'L' lens best friend A tough angle on the TS's and the light was a little harsh but you got them buddy! I think you are the Grebe master, you always get some great images and close to these guys and these are great Tim!
Great location for the Greenies and you found a couple of juvis, nice shots and nice light on them These look great my friend, sharp and super colors! Oh my, not TC either, you got close Tubes next time

Hey Karl!
I gotta get a grebe, love those guys. They are here year round, you get to know them
Yeah, all the greenies I have seen up close were juvies Don't remember that from last year. These two were shot far apart and had very different behaviors, would have to be 2 different birds. Oh I have some tc shots, portraits I learned some new tricks for getting close to them, it takes time but man is it worth it.
Thanks buddy!!

Well it just takes time and patience Per. I get close to where the bird seems to get uneasy, I then just sit. I don't raise the camera, paddle or do anything, just sit. After 10 or so minutes I move in a bit more and repeat the process until I'm where I want to shoot from. Then very slowly raise the camera while being as motionless as possible. It just takes patience.

OK !!!
Thank you Tim.
Get Close
If you are not using a yak you will need to approach the birds carefully. Walk in a zig zag pattern towards the birds so that you are never walking directly towards them. They will fly much less often if they don’t think you are coming for them. Also, do not look directly at the bird. If you stare at the bird and walk directly towards them you become a predator in their minds. By using your peripheral vision and walking at an angle you greatly reduce your threat profile.
