p.1 #1 · EP-1 - Can it take Raw photos in different aspect ratios?
I read the E-P1 manual and it's not totally clear whether the camera will take a Raw photo in the different aspect ratios like 6:6 (square). Can someone who has the camera clarify whether the camera will take a Raw photo in the square format? I like to frame photos in the square format on the camera LCD and the last camera I had that could do that (the LX-2) would only take Jpegs in that aspect ratio.
While it's not the most important factor in my decision whether to get this camera it would be nice if it could do it without me having to crop after the fact.

Hi Peter,
The danish manual says under image ratio aspect "Note: RAW images is not cropped"
and i just tried it myself with the E-P1. So no, the aspect ratios does not effect the RAW file.
But it shows the ratios selected as a box over image when you view the RAW file in-camera or in Olympus Master 2.2. So if you have select 6:6 it will show the 6:6 ratio in the program and then you can crop the image after the lines shown.

thanks Peter. If Lightroom eventually supports the EP1 I doubt you will still be able to see the box over the image in the square format in LR, but who knows. At least the camera LCD shows the square format when shooting raw, right?

Hi Peter,
yes, when you view the image on camera it shows the thin-lined-box as in the new upgraded Olympus Master 2.2 program.
if you shoot RAW + JPEG you have an uncropped file and a cropped file.
