Okay, more details: This was actually with the 400 f5.6 plus Tamron 1.4x TC. Shot from a car blind. Even though I have a branch attached to a metal railing, the bird insisted on sitting on the railing.
Yes, this is a young Kingfisher, probably a few months old. Shot in early morning light. From 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., only got shots at one opportunity. Will post more with ugly railing later.
Wow Tony, you got close! Was this from a hide, or just a co-operative subject? Either way, this image is a beauty. Good to know that the 400 f/5.6 is still cranking out outstanding images.
Sweet! Superb capture. This is indeed my nemesis bird. Please let us know how you were able to get so close. This does appear to be a juvenile. Really really nice. Congrats!
Alright Tony, spill the beans. Is it real? I know it is but can't believe how close you got. Great detail in both the highlights and the darker areas. Well done.

Thanks, Ed. From a car blind with 1.4x TC and a very long wait.
