p.1 #1 · Where are all the 1Ds2s?

we all know what a great camera this is but where are they? i'm finding them hard to come by-are they just that popular right now?

OT but related question: on Adorama, a refurbished 1Ds2 is $4K as opposed to $3K for a refurbished 1D3-why is that?

Adorama has a Ex condition for 2399 IIRC? They are around in here and Ebay, but they are not high-volume items like 30Ds and 5Ds because of its high retail price.

Mines in my bag. I'll probably never unload it.

The local shop I go in has one every other week or so, but they disappear quickly. The last one they had was LN, sold for ~$2.5k in one day. At that price, they are the best pro-level camera "bang for the buck" right now.

Now if Canon would just take that sensor and AF, slap on the newer LCD, liveview and battery system...

Mine's in my bag too. I think I've seen two or three on the B+S board here in the last couple of weeks. They're never going to be as common as the 40Ds flying around. They were $8K bodies back in the day, IIRC.

Because the 1Ds2 is a better camera.

Be careful. Once you go full-frame, there's no going back. And once you go 1D, there's no going back. You see where this is going.

The moment I saw the files mine was delivering (at the sellers house) I knew I wanted one, and it's still in my bag too. I bought a 5D2 in Feb but I really didn't find myself reaching for it over the older 1Ds2 so I sold it 2 weeks ago, and so far no regrets.

haha, agreed-as much as i've considered and appreciate the 1D3, i've had 5Ds for the past year now and couldn't bear the thought of the crop factor on my primes-i imagine i'll feel the same way about owning a 1 series

To put it another way, the only reasons why I will _ever_ "upgrade" from the 1Ds2 are (1) if a client has resolution requirements that it can not meet (which is why I got it in the first place) or (2) high-ISO quality improves so much that I can shoot at 25,600 or whatever and have it look like ISO 100. And given that most of my recent stuff has been outdoors or with strobes, even #2 is not all that compelling.

My thoughts are, if the job has not changed then I don't need to change the tool.

I bought my first used one with less than 4K clicks at $5000, maybe 3 years ago, the second one with 4K clicks two years ago at $3500.

I may be crazy but I am keeping an eye on these now at $2000 to $2500 thinking of a third one for a second shooter setup.

I borrowed one last year and was very impressed. Then the guy said he was selling it & was I interested. After thinking about it for 1 second, I agreed. However, the next day I was offerred a 1DsMkIII for not a lot more money so I passed on the MkII. Still, using it really opened my eyes to the beauty of full frame.

Well, I got a good used one recently at a fairly good price <$2400USD and I can't imagine letting go of it. Only reason the original owner let loose of it was that his eyesight was getting real bad and he had to have the larger LCD on the 1DsIII. He swore the III's IQ wasn't any better though and thought the AF was worse. I do miss my IIn though cause the MkII's buffer fills up fast and it doesn't seem to acquire focus as fast as the IIn did. Maybe I'll find another one.

They're out there, just keep looking.

I don't use a bag, but mine's sitting next to me; being a test mule for the M42 lenses I have today.

There were several on the B/S board a month ago, usually between 2200-2800, I have heard of them going right around $2k sometimes as well. Was really thinking about adding one rather then another 1d3, but might just get another 1d3 to keep batteries, controls, etc the same. Or, maybe wait til the ds3's drop into the mid $4k range...

I got mine used from Adorama and they were willing to deal a little bit and upgrade shipping. It turned out to have 50K on the shutter and is in great shape. I'm happy with my purchase and love the output.

Got one myself about 4 months ago for $1700. Excellent condition, but a high shutter count. Works flawlessly. It's a phenomenal camera. Get one if you can! I don't think I'll sell mine unless it breaks beyond repair, which I don't see happening.

You just have to be willing to buy from overseas, like, e.g., Australia (hint).

+1 to in my bag as well. It comes out before anything else including the 1D3. Best camera I have ever owned and I have been shooting for over 30 years.

Yes, and I have had two 1Ds MK II bodies for many years. Then I got the 1Ds MK iII and will be buying another one of them. As much as I like the 1Ds MK II it is time to move on.
