why perptuate the stereotype that Irish folks are drunks? How about the next Mexican wedding I do I call it lazy, or Italian mobsters, or Jews rich and stingy? Normally I'm not the politically correct police, but gotta be careful around clients (I noticed you posted the same on FB/blog).
strong images and PP.. the reception shots are so-so but the prep and couples shots are really great

I have been hesitant to bring this up, but do brides really buy this stuff? A photo of two lawn chairs? Photo with so much flare you cannot id the subject? How about the alligators foot? What about the odd colors and unusual crops? Are these just photos that you take for other photographers on the forum? I was with a MOB when she got some proofs like these and she said she was very dissapointed. She said why would she want a photo of the brides shoes? What about the photo's where the B&G's faces are blurred or cropped out? Why does the color look like it was shot on film left in a hot car? I suppose you take photos that are well composed, good color and show the B&G faces in focus. I just rarely see them posted. I am not saying your work is bad, I am just wondering if these are the photo's that sell. ...Show more →
My brides pay me thousands of dollars to give them a cropped photo of the groom, closeup of her shoes or her eyelashes. I show what I want to sell and that is the reason they hire me in the first place. Of course I show a whole lot more to complete the picture, but yeah they book me because their pictures will be different and not just "pretty pictures".

Really nice stuff Pat. I found 5 & 9 very strong. 9 is a great execution of this concept with a lovely composition.
Just watched the Red Bank fireworks... man its come a long way since I last watched them a decade or so ago.
That means a lot coming from you - much appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
As far as shooting "what sells", my clients love my style. I shoot for an album (prints don't sell like they used too...in fact, they barely sell at all). My mindset when approaching a wedding is to capture for an album, tell a story, and set the scene. Then I come up with mind-blowing portraits that can not only wrap up a good album design but can also stand alone as a huge canvas on my clients walls. To each his own, but albums + canvas is where it's at.
Edit: I got to experience the Red Bank fireworks tonight atop my girlfriends bosses sailboat. The fireworks literally went off ~500 feet away from us. Phenomenal.

You know, it may be because you have a better grasp of your clients wants and needs. I am just not sure that this kind of photography is right for all brides. I like some of this stuff, but I am a photographer.

The photography style is a reflection of Pat himself. If he wasn't true to his own inner style I doubt he'd take such good photos or even want to be a photographer. Your style should be dictated by who you are as a person and not what the market is looking for, success will follow.
