Yeah, it's gone over $1,800 now. I reckon in a couple of $100 bills, the speculators and the spare parts buyers will be starting to give up. Who will be left ? I guess the enthusiasts. They will probably push the price to $2,500-$2,700 sold.
I expect, the "as is" must relate to the fact that Canon will not service the lens (little or no parts available). So Adorama can't be expected to repair it-hence "as is."
I just got a call from Adorama's head of the used department. While I am an Adorama customer for years (though have not spent much money), I never mentioned this to anyone so I didn't expect that (remember folks, I live in Israel).
He was very polite and explained that it is simply not Adorama's policy to take pictures but promised to look at it. I explained my situation (living far away, no picture, no possibility to return the lens) and he agreed and said that in my shoes he would also not bid. It was a very pleasant call and the funny thing, came at the end: He started to talk in Hebrew. Yes, I know most of Adorama's workers are Jews but at the time I just didn't remember that.
So, in the end I didn't receive the picture and although I suppose it is as good as any other 200/1.8, I will not bid. I am neither rich nor risk-taker by nature. Whatever it ends, I ended up with a very good feeling. Not because of the lens but because of Adorama's attitude towards a potential buyer.
A request: If the winner of the lens is here on FM and if you are pleased with it, do not say that nor post pictures. I don't want to know.

Good judgement call, Yakim.
Re your Adorama story, that's how clever salesmen should operate.....they try to make a customer feel good although they may not be able to help much in real terms. I betcha his name was Alan S......a good man he is.
2651! That bumped like crazy in the last fifteen seconds (as expected)! Could have had it for 2499 with the possibility of a return just a few weeks ago.
