I've posted this lens for sale, but I honestly don't know what is a reasonable price for a mint copy of this lens...
I put it out for $2300......is this too much/chaep?
Please give me some input, so I can fix the price accordingly....
Paul, $1500 is more realistic (jk your price is ok, maybe a lil high due to 1.4x incompatibility)
I'm actually in the market for this lens hehe
What bad timing though as I'm about to blow the lens budget on a Voigtlander Nokton 1.1, if someone bought bought my summarit and summicron I'd be right on top of this bad boy!
This is a fantastic lens especially if used with the 1.4x apo. The focusing mount is something special and allows you to nail the focus quickly and follow moving subjects .
That's cool Paul, good luck.
If I may ask Paul, why are you selling? I'm desperately seeking this lens, and unless you either a) don't mind the weight of the summicron or b) don't use the focal length I'm struggling to think of a reason you might be selling, unless you're in financial crisis.
Hard to find many copies of this lens for sale so the prices I think are higher than what Robert mentions above righ now. I had to pay more than $2000 to get my mint copy (serial # is near Paul's) but I am very happy with my copy even if I overpaid a little.
I see far more 180 APO 2.0's for sale than the 2.8.
Yes, there is no entry in Colwell's lens database for the 2.8 only the 2.0 version.
The 180 APO 2.8 and my 100 APO 2.8 are easily my two best lenses.
The 180 APO 2.8 is amazingly sharp even at 2.8, only a little shaper stopped down to 5.6.
Even used with the Leica 2x APO extender this lens it is still very sharp, sharpness doesn't degrade as much as my Canon tele's do with the Canon extenders.
You can also use a Canon 1.4x extender for these versions which can not take the Leica version 1.4x extender if the lens adapter has a AF confirm chip.
The manual focus ring is very smooth and easy to rotate for fast manual focusing.
The bokeh of this lens is excellent too when taking portraits at f2.8.
It's a real shame that Leica has stopped making R lenses like this and the 100 APO.
I don't have 5D now...
I had 5D MkII, and I really liked its high ISO performance as well as the Live-view focusing capability over 5D.
Live-view focusing is a winner for manual focusing lenses.
Also, I don't do large prints, but the extra resolution was pretty handy for occasional cropping.
it's a long story why I do not have the camera at the moment...but I need it back.
