p.1 #1 · Citi Field SLR restrictions?

Taking my dad to Citi Field in July and was wondering what combo I can get away with? Would they allow canon 1d MK2N and 135 with 1.4x. Possibly 300L F4? Thanks in advance.

Quoted from the Mets website:

"Small film or digital still cameras are permitted in Citi Field. Video cameras are not permitted in Citi Field at this time due to security considerations."

If I were a betting man, I would think twice about taking that rig to the field.

Thank you for the quote, but Fenway lists similar restrictions and allow larger cameras inside. Looking for anyone who has been to a game at Citi Field and what they were able to get in with (not being paid to shoot).

I've gotten in Citifield with a canon 40D and a 200m F2.8 with the extender on. No issues what so ever. I've even seen fans with 70-200m.

Though it was not Citi, I took my D300 with a 70-300VR into the new Yankees Stadium without problem. If you are worried, just put a small lens on the camera, and bring a larger one in a separate bag.

+1 to the bring a larger lens in a separate bag... works well if you're with a woman and her tote sized purse. 70-200 f4 is the largest I've brought to games and I personally don't consider that to be "large"

At some point though, unless you're right on the side of the stadium or within a few rows of the dugout, you're just not going to get those close in pictures and you might be better off just using a short lens and getting atmosphere pictures.

you're going to watch the game, not bonk somebody on the head with a 400 f2.8

I tried to get my 300 2.8 and 1d2n in to citi but was turned away. They told me to put it in my car, to which I laughed at the guy. Thanks to a friend on the inside I was finally able to get it in.

Here are two photos from the last row of the upper deck with a 2x teleconverter

Basically I wouldn't bring any big white lenses i.e. 300 2.8 or so. But the 135mm should be fine

Please check with the teams website, stadium website, or call the team/stadium and find out the rules. Please do not try to slip past the rules. If there is a restriction on cameras, or limits to lens size, follow them. The more rules broken, the harsher they will be the next season. Take a point and shoot, enjoy the game with your dad.

Thanks for all of the responses. I will try to enjoy the game, as long as the Mets improve!

Funny that "TrojanHorse" wants to hide something inside of something else

Didn't think about that but you're right...

Just went to Comerica Park (Detroit) with a 40D, 20D, G9, SD550, 400 5.6, 70-200 2.8, 17-40 4, 580EXII and 2x TC.

Take your stuff. Just don't have a 5D Mark II with you!

if one ticket-taker turns you away with the lens, simply get on another line. these folks are clueless to their own rules for the most part, some don't care, some are on power trips -- i think the rules on the websites are somewhat irrelevant to that degree, honestly. or just go and enjoy the game as others have said.

Well if they turn your 300 f/4 away you can always hop over to yankees stadium
(then again at $7980 a seat they better! )

They seem to welcome stuff like that. One guard even got into a nice photography discussion with me.

although once one of the guards gave me trouble about it, but I went to a different line and it was fine jsut liek all the other times. I see lots of 70-200 2.8's and such in there every time too.

Actually I have not been to the new stadium yet, and more specifically this refers to 2004-2008.

You can plan out your camera equipment, but not the weather. Game was rained out. Brought my 35L, 300 F4 IS, 5d without any issues. Here is a pano I managed despite the weather.

Hmmm, I'm gonna say that works most of the time. When I'm credentialed media at football games (college or pro) or basketball, sometimes I have to go outside to shoot the crowd, stadium, environment surroundings, or I'm following the cheerleaders as they do appearances. But when I'm solo, I'll go to the nearest entrance and normally I have no problem. Mind you, I'm fully geared up with knee pads, two bodies, pro belt with multiple pouches and my credential.

At the Rose Bowl two years ago (Illinois vs USC), I was told nope, I had to go all the way around to the media entrance. I tried another gate. Same thing. So at least at some places, they know what they're doing. I did convince a supervisor at another gate about my assignment, blah blah, she let me in.

It's been my experience that it's hit or miss. The park I shoot at has a "6 inch rule" w/r/t length of lenses, but it's never measured and I've seen people bring in 70-200's and I'll get harassed with a prime lens (bigger bodies look more professional, I guess, so therefore "No.") On days I'm not shooting a game and am relegated to drinking beer, the G10 comes with since I know I won't get harassed and have to leave my gear in the car (not a great idea.)

...at my age, it's no longer an issue!

Yankee Stadium has a no backpack rule so careful what kind of bag you want to bring. I had to put my camera in my wife's purse (bigger than my backpack) and check my backpack (no real camera gear in it) and the adjacent bowling alley. I ended up bringing my 5D with 17-40 and 70-200 4IS

FYI
