There was a time when the hood ornament of cars were pure art. Remember?

Request to ALL: Please identify the make/marque and year if possible.

I have not seen these four before.

Each is interesting. Thanks for posting.

Trenchmonkey: That one is too cool. Looks like something out of "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy."

Hey there Trenchmonkey, I really like that ornament. My research shows it is a '36 Hudson. The '34 had two versions with wings, but I think both were chrome.

Thanks for that, Ray...I'll change my notes it was a best guess as I shot a couple of dozen that morning.

Yes, 36 Hudson...I didn't take this pix, it comes from http://www.oldcarandtruckpictures.com/AmericanMotors/Hudson.html which is a great site for old car pix and research. Look closely, the profile is right.

I really like that 1930s period for styling. My favorite! Same with Planes.

Looking at that last photo of the 36 Hudson, I am very much impressed by the grill shape and the light/horn clusters AND the hood ornament.

Look at the "aerodynamic" influence there. Sleek and "modern" looking. Very cool.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Steady, if you like the aerodynamic influence, I think you might enjoy the '39 Delahaye. This vehicle is all curves. (Unfortunately I only have this front quarter shot to post at this time.)

I have little idea which cars they are off, i think the one in my first post was an Auburn.

We get hundreds of cars from the early part of the last century, for an Art Deco festival each year. And a great thing is the cars aren't just on static display.

The hood ornament on the 1917 Dodge is hinky. Take a look at what appears to be the exact same one on a 1926 Ford and simlar vintage Saxon.

Out and about on a 97 degree day today, I found another 1949 Plymouth. Just look at the heat waves emanating from the hood. Fried eggs anyone? Happy 4th of July to us all.

that hood ornament that keeps showing up is actually a motometer, which is an early and primitive radiator temp gauge, and it was a popular option on many cars.
