p.1 #1 · Old Townsite of Ashcroft

A silver mining camp in a high valley south of Aspen. It only lasted a decade or so....established in 1880 and abandoned in 'the 1890's', when the silver boom died out. For a time it was also a stage station for the old Taylor Pass Toll Road, in the Sawatch Range of central Colorado.
The buildings have been nicely maintained for the tourists, I'm sure, but the site still had a feel of the old west to me.

C&C please, Thanks for looking.

Barry

Sweet - I could easily see myself filling up a bunch of memory card in short order at that place. Looks perfect for B&W ad you had some great skies to work with.

Nice shot.

While i do not really do hand of man, I know you love it Barry. This is a good example, great conversion, and that sky really lends itself for the bw too.

Hello Barry, a fine subject for conversions. It does have that old, 'yesterday' look. Good work.

Like others have said, the details and processing on this one are super. All you need now is an old prospector to lean on the sides of one of these buildings.

Have always enjoyed your work, Barry....but it seems you've really upped the ante over the last month. The last few have been simply GREAT, and this may be the best of the bunch. Great composition and just inspiring processing.....you just nailed the clouds in this one.

Thanks very much guys. Very pleased you all enjoyed these old relics
Alan, it's easy for me, too! The sky and bright mid-day sun made me think of b&w even before I shot, which is rare for me.
Paul, that means a lot, thanks!!
Hugh, you know I love the old and abandoned!!
Very kind, Ray. Thanks much!
Thank you Mike.
John, that's very generous, many thanks!!!

Hi, Barry. An excellent shot to go b/w. I like it. Very nicely done. I think I was there around 25 years ago. It was in early October and there was snow on the ground. Wish I had my current gear with me back then. I remember it as being a pretty cool place to visit.

Cheers,
Ed

This is a nice lineup of historic buildings. Good conversion. It makes me feel like I am on the street looking at them myself.

Very cool Barry,

Growing up in Iowa, we used to spend our summer vacations at Elk mountain lodge just right next door on the other side of the Beaver ponds. Many happy childhood memories running around those buildings and fishing in Castle creek as a kid in the mid sixties.

I remember that the lodge and the land from Ashcroft heading east was for sale in 1967. A good chunk of that valley. The two brothers who owned it were asking a little over a million for the lodge and land. Some corporation bought it as a retreat. Can only imagine what it's worth now.
