Here's a few from D2H from back in the day. Just looking back Id forgotten how much I hated it at anything above ISO200. ISO320 was awful!

Here's a few from D2H from back in the day. Just looking back Id forgotten how much I hated it at anything above ISO200. ISO320 was awful!

That is one aspect of the D2H that I don't particularly miss, though I found my results to be acceptable up to ISO 640 or in some situations, 800 *IF* I was shooting in RAW and processing the shots afterwards. For straight-out-of-camera JPGs, my old D2H gave me so-so results beyond ISO 400...

...that said, I always admired how film-like the noise pattern was on the D2H for anything B&W containing lots of contrast. I found that I could push the camera's ISO to 1600 and get printable out-of-camera JPGs in B&W. That would have been (or may yet still be...) my main reason for having a D2H around as a backup camera. It was like shooting Tri-X 400 film all over again (without the hassle of developing and printing!), especially with my old 50mm f/1.4 AI-S and 105mm f/2.5 AI-S lenses mounted.

By kane513: yep, jason, I have been putting your D2H to good use. I love it. Will post shots soon!

Are you Doug N. from VA Beach, VA by chance? If so, you owe me some pictures taken by my former D2H! I've been eager to see how the camera's been working for you. We should meet up for coffee and go shoot locally sometime! If you're not Doug, I'm still eager to see some shots, but disregard the rest

Man, they are worth so little these days why didnt you just keep it??

While I'm nostalgic about the D2H now, and I do miss it, I didn't take too bad of a financial loss on mine, as I bought it once the prices fell extremely low, and sold it before prices dropped much farther. I think I put about 10k clicks on it before I passed it along to the subsequent owner, but it served me well across 2 weddings, 6 or 7 portrait sessions, and a whole lot of hobby shooting in the few months I owned it.

I bought it as a refurbished body-only with a battery and charger for $800, and I sold it for $800 with a ton of good quality CF cards that I would no longer use after the D2H found its new home. In my eyes, I got enough use out of it to justify selling it at the minor loss I took (the cost of the CF cards). I needed a camera that'd be more flexible than the D2H in lower light situations where an ISO over 400 would be required. I needed a more practical camera for paid shoots in the dim environments that I often found myself shooting in, and I opted to order a Nikon D90 about 1 week after they were announced (which I mostly paid for with the money from my D2H sale).

I'm almost 25,000 shots into my D90, and I love the image quality out of the D90's JPGs. Beyond ISO performance and JPG image quality, the D90 can't even remotely compare to the D2H's build quality, big 'n' bright viewfinder, ridiculously awesome AF speed and tracking across all 11 sensor points, matrix (or ANY) metering with older non-CPU manual lenses, and of course the mighty 8 FPS rapid fire continuous frame rate for anything action-oriented. In use, my D2H was the F5 I always dreamed about getting in my early film days, but without paying for roll after roll of film, and with better flash performance (thank you, Nikon i-TTL!).

Great images, everyone! I LOVE the owl shot, Lisa Nicely composed portraits, Firewireguy.

Thank you, Raymond. The scenario lasted but a moment and I got lucky in capturing it.

I really love the D2h, but the dynamic range seems lacking in comparison to like a D90. Also, ISO 400 on D2h looks like 1600 on D90.

No, I am andrew. Did I not buy your D2h? I thought I did about a week ago, but it may have been another jason.

EDIT: Yep. Different guy. sorry! Will still post some though. Here:

Coincidentally I just bought a D2h off ebay last week.

Over the past 48 hours I got these shots:

Thanks. No, never tried to sell it - but it's the desktop wallpaper on every computer I use. I think I have a large print of it someplace that I've been been meaning to frame, along with some nice balloon photos done with my D2x.

I'm looking forward to this year's balloon festival with the D700.

Couple more, all with D2h & 300/2.8 AF-S II. Used a Kenko 1.4 TC on the first one. Wish I'd have slowed down the shutter on the third to get some prop blur, but ... live & learn.

Well, my love for the D2H, my favorite camera, is still alive and well. I bought it listening to all those horror stories about its 4.1 megapixels, the meter problem, its "lousy" beyond ISO 400 performance and the infamous error shown in many models at first shot. I am happy to say that after 28 k shots, still not a problem.
The D2H will teach any photographer discipline. If you crop often your files, this camera is not your best choice. Its AF is incredibly fast and precise and if you need a machine gun while shooting, you just got it here too.
In the studio skin colors are superb. Colors in landscape photography are awesome. For action photography it is excellent and although I am not a high ISO shooter, I have used the camera at ISO 1600 without issues IF I overexposed slightly and used RAW files. If any questions, Noiseware does a beautiful job cleaning the noise and preserving excellent details.
It is a great tool and an excellent camera to have if personal protection is needed. Its files are small and easy to handle. I could spend the day just talking about this professional camera.
Those pictures are excellent and demonstrate the abilities of the camera and the photographers shooting with it. Enlargements to 20x30 are no issue with this camera.
For those who have sold it, buy another one and continue to enjoy it.

In general, I agree - but a D2h will surprise you at times.

Here's an original D2h frame and a cropped "poster" I made from it (I had originally designed it as a trading card). I printed the poster at 13x19 for the kid's mom, and it was great! (Name changed, of course...)

I miss mine too. The D90 replacement is lighter, which is what I wanted, but still.

Here are some of my favorites.

Oh let me play. My D2H story. I had a D70 but dropped it in a river while shooting eagles. Insurance covered replacement cost so I opted to get a used D2H instead. That was about 4 yrs ago, and it is still well used today.

Here are some of my samples

my bad, here are the others. In no particular order, but hopefully shows the range of subject matters and situations that the D2H works in.
