So I wanted to give the "stick a lens on the end of your camera backwards" method like Alexey Kljatov did w/ his low budget DIY seen here: http://www.boredpanda.com/snowflake-macro-photography-diy-alexey-kljatov/

I took this a step further w/ my A77 + 70-200G + (oddly enough the same lens he used) a Helios 44M-4. This is the first attempt I've had at this technique and I gotta say it was real fun. Once I got it set up it wasn't too hard to move around the glass and find new snow flakes. I'll have to give this another go later.. I got way too cold haha

Cropped and edited to give the image some pop.

EDIT: Added picture of setup from the front when I was beta testing if you will on my girlfriend's xmas tree.

I just bought the Nikon 40 mm macro. I thought it would give me a nice, short working distance, but sometimes I still want a wide angle.

An interesting preference. I found my Olympus 35mm was too close, often snagging the leaves insects were on.

So I'm just getting started and received my fotodiox pro tubes, shown in front of my canon 60mm f/2.8, with inexpensive rails below. Waiting for a cheap ring flash also ordered. (Using a hot light to experiment with). Photo below.

After reading some of the posts here, I realized I can use my flash bracket (used for events) for macro use. I have to get it out and configure a dual diffused flash from right/left.

Any thoughts or experience with doing this:
I saw this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-58mm-Close-up-Anodized-Panasonic/dp/B001G42EJ4/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Reviewers there say you get good results putting a 50/1.8 on the end of a 70-200/4 with this adapter.

My setup in progress:

Thanks,

Peter

Is there a reason that people use bellows over rings or do they do the same exact thing?

They essentially do the exact same thing. Bellows are larger setups, can't really hand-hold them, can get higher magnifications with them...etc.

I'm getting started with macro, TIA, I'm going to re-read many of the posts and work on a config for my 6D/100mm macro and 600ex-rt. Any advice on using this completely off camera wireless would be great.

Hello Peter, can you give us your opinion/review on the cheap focusing rail? is it solid? does it moves smoothly or yanks from position to position? I am debating if going Velbon is worth the extra $60-$70

Regards,

Victor

I use an older Velbon with my D7000 as well as my Fuji XE1 that I used to have.

I see a lot of home made diffusers If you go to newfrog.com they have an inflatable one under 3 bucks and a foldable one for about 12 bucks nice to keep in you bag just in case
