m-a-x Offline • • Upload & Sell: Off p.1 #1 · Konica Hexanon AR 57mm F1.2 on EOS (300D) Some days ago I finished conversion of a Konica Hexanon AR 57mm F1.2 and want to share some first impressions with you. I used it on a 300D and I like it! I think it's in the same league as my Rokkor-PG 58/1.2. It's a pitty that I cannot mount the Hexanon on my full frame camera (an unshaved 5D). Due to the protruding rear element it's basically an EF-S lens now The good thing for users with EOS-crop-bodies who might want to convert this lens: there is no need for mirror shaving. Before I adjusted the focus it was even beyond infinity without any mirror issues. Here is the lens-camera combo itself and some results. Some pictures are taken at F1.2 and some stopped down until F2. All out-of-the-camera jpeg, only resized and compressed afterwards. May 24, 2009 at 08:01 AM

I have one of those lenses too but use it on a Konica film cam. I think Dim.ka here has converted one for use on a 5D, however a lot of mirror surgery is required. Something like 5mm if I recall correctly. I'm just wondering does yours have that slight yellow tinge when looking through the viewfinder? Mine certainly does, but I've only shot B&W with it so far so it's not much of an issue. Congrats once more and have fun with it! R. May 24, 2009 at 08:09 AM

Also the lens looks a bit yellow but this could be the coating as well. That would be why the pics are fine - Auto-WB compensates the yellow tint, much like if you shot under yellow-ish light and WB it. Appearantly the yellow dicoloration can be caused by a rare earth element used in old glass, but can be cured by exposing to UV light from the sun or a special lamp (read this on the forum here...). In fact, I have to thank you because I decided to convert the Hexanon after I have seen other pictures you made with it One question with respect to your 5D: how does it look like when you look through your shaved camera? Do you have a reduced frame coverage (less than the original 96%) in the viewfinder? If the answer is yes: does it depend on the lens or not? And is it distracting? Thx, max May 27, 2009 at 02:44 PM

Concerning viewfinder - i will try to take a picture how it looks, but firstly i use Nikon DK-17M eyepiece (magnification by 1.2) and if you use fast prime lens 50mm f1.2 or 85 f1.2 up to f4 there is no real difference is your mirror shaved or not - when you stop down the lens defussed black bar from the upper part of the viefinder starts showing about f4 f5.6 and onwards, so if you use a lot lenses with f4 f5.6 it could be the real problem.
