p.1 #1 · new project

Hi all, I've been working recently on shooting around town (Minneapolis)... here's my top 3 that came out of a shoot a couple nights ago, any critiques out there?

Awesome. Love panoramas. I like #2 & #3.

i agree with Kaden. The second and third are the strongest.

Any opinions on the crop?

I included the first one because the subject is one of the iconic images in my neighborhood. I feel like it invokes a certain emotion, but I would agree that it's less visually striking than the other two.

Any critiques/suggestion/ideas?

I personally like the composition and the original crop but find the first and second images a little too contrasty. it causes the photo to lose details in the shadows. cheers

Spider-

I tend to agree, but I've been trying hard to practice the 'less is more' mentality, which is why I included it.

Looking at the first one on a different (better) monitor I agree that too much detail is lost with the bump in contrast.

Not sure the second one benefits from more detail, I'll post the pre contrast (there's a huge bump up for this one) version when I get home from work.

Here's the original, just a straight conversion from RAW

First is missing too much shadow detail for me Looks indistinct and murky through much of the lower right quarter of the image.
I really like the second but would suggest an intermediate crop. What about cropping with either of sliver of ground below the water, or at the base of the bridge. Your crop makes a very different statement, emphasizing the elevation of the central column, drawing the eye up. But I really like the light and reflections below in the water, and the face like image that results with the crops I suggest.
Third is nice. I wonder if it just needs something more. Maybe a bit more contrast and sharpening?

Incorporating a few different suggestions, here's another shot at all three.

I think the crop to the second is especially effective, I'd tried a couple others, but I like the result here.

I like that you fixed the tilt in 2. It is very nice. Good job.

I like 3 as well. Very nice.

1 for me is not a great composition.

Last post of series, I like 2 but would have a bit more space in front of the pillar. 3 is good as is. 1 still does not seem exciting.

interesting shots, but I think they cry out for HDR

IMO the third one is much stronger than the other two. I also agree about the HDR need for the other two. The composition is nice in the first but there is this huge area that is dark that I WANT to see. Also see if you can do anything about boosting the contrast on the beer sign so it can be read.
