Out shooting after work tonight and caught this Great Horned Owl ready for the night hunt under the moonlight. Just waiting for sunset.

Very nice capture Klaus. I wonder if the owl just overpowers a little as the main subject?

What timing! Great composition. Talk about the right place at the right time! Great work keeping both elements in focus while keeping shutter speed up. Well done!

Beautiful image !
However I find it a bit unatural. Is it a composite ? The darkness of the branch on the right bother me a bit...

Very well done! Both the moon and the owl look very heroic!

All the best,

Julien,
Thats the way it was. The darkness on the branch was from the shadow of a tree next to where the owl was. I decided to leave it as seen.

Thanks for the precision. Sorry I don't mean to be annoying but where is the light coming from to produce such lighting and shadows the moon been in the behind the subject ? Thanks again.

Julien

Both Klaus and my efforts were taken before the sun had set, that is why the illumination in not strictly moonlight. I cannot speak for Klaus, but for me I have captured the moon after dark with some success, I was pushing for clarity in the moon while it was availble in daylight (ie a rising moon before sunset) as a means of pushing my own photographic technique/skill. I like Klaus' effort better than mine for the great composition. I called mine Moon-Lite as a play on words regarding diet products and for the lack of darkness....mike
