Hi, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I was wondering is anyone knew anything about this lens? I tried to search but nothing/not much came up about this particular brand. thanks
Do not confuse Rokinon with Rikenon. I have no personal experience with Rokinon but after a brief search on google I am under the impression that all
things Rokinon are complete rubbish.
Search for the Samyang 85/1.4. They're all made by the same company. IIRC, the consensus is that it isn't as nice as say the Nikon 85/1.4, but for the price, its a pretty good lens. The major flaw seemed to be occasionally excessive CA.
Here you have a pic, no post-processed at all, only cropped. I think the lens is exelent for the price. This pic was taken with canon 5d mkII (full frame) the camera reports it as 50mm. To make manual focus easier you should change the focusing screen, in the case of 5Dmkii I bought the Eg-5

Your impression is totally wrong.
As other threads can attest, the Samyang (aka rokinon aka bower aka...) 85mm f/1.4 lens is a standout. Samyang is making quite a stir with its lens releases.
I have the Rokinon 85/1.4 - was $100. cheaper than the Vivitar version (same thing.) Love it. I also have a Rokunar 90/2.5 macro but that is just to show you how similiar some names can be.
Excellent lens. Also sold under Polar, Vivitar, Bower, and Samyang (manufacturer). They are putting out some pretty incredible stuff at really low prices. Works fine on my 5D2, 1D3, and the 1Ds3.
I forget were I saw it but some have developed some issues with the construction/ problems with the lens after a few months. May want to google and check
but looks like a good lens from what I have seen here.
I believe there has been some issues with the Nikon mount version and the auto-aperture stop down linkage... No concern really for the Canon mount version as it is completely manual/stop down aperture control.
First shot with mine, quite sharp wide open (some sharpness added).
Pretty pleased with it although even with an eyepiece magnifier wide open focusing is almost impossible.
No problem using live view @ 5x though.
Eventually i'll get a focus screen.
I read the same, but since I don't think to use it in other than 1.4, I don't care about it. Remember that where this lens shines is just at the widest aperture.
