Here's my take from a shoot not long ago. Really beautiful birds.
Canon 50D
100-400 IS Lens @ 330mm. Tripod mounted, IS off.
1/250" @ f/6.3
ISO 400
These were all shot on single shot AF and continuous shooting turned off.

While I don't like the broken perch, I like the head angle and the intense colors of the winter plumage. Beautiful reds. They contrasted nicely with the snow in shadow all around me. The best part was, when I would "tire" of shooting these little guys - I could make a quarter turn to the right and see Mt. Foraker, Hunter, and Denali and the rest of the northern reaches of the Alaska Range. Pretty spectacular view.
I'll have more eagle photos up on the Journal shortly. Spent last weekend in Homer, my final weekend before they stop the feeding. It was a great weekend.

Lovely shot. The colors and feather details are great. Like the BG too.I don't mind the perch. However I would like little more room to the left of the bird. The gallery is very nice and enjoy going through the images.

Those really are some vibrant colors, Dave. Agree with Harsha on the crop but still a dang fine photo.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. This is actually REALLY embarrassing... I didn't think that I had posted this image before on Fred Miranda... yeah, I did. You see, I had too much milk to drink last night and I must have been in a drunken milk stupor... Anyway, the original was cropped more on the left. The suggestions everyone made said the same thing - everyone wished there was more room on the left of the frame. So I went back and uncropped that side to its full width, this is the result.
Sorry 'bout the mistake, got's to pay moooooore attention

As a follow up. It was very interesting to do a zoomed in spot reading on different parts of the bird with the RGB histogram up. The red patch above the tail feathers was so intense, that I had to stop down just a bit to avoid burning out the red channel. But, then of course the bird was well underexposed. So I compromised and brought the detail back in CS3 and Lightroom.

Thanks again everyone, always good to hear good comments about ones work. Though I do love a good criticism, it's what makes me work harder and learn from my errors.
