Ok, I have withdrawn this offer. Guess it will be a reminder to avoid wet cleaning.

A couple months back, I cracked the IR filter during wet cleaning. The entire assembly is hermetically sealed and Canon will not replace the IR filter by itself. LifePixel just told me they do however, but they did not want to buy it.

As far as I know, only the IR filter is damaged. Canon charged me $2295 to replace the entire assembly. My Insurance covered it. I asked for and received the old assembly from Canon.

Asking $200 if anyone can use it. I will cover PayPal and domestic shipping.
This is sort of a fishing expedition, will be withdrawn if no interest.

Ben:

You are on a fishing expedition!!

Who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for that part unless they were in the repair business!!

I think fleabay has more of your kind of customer.

Hope you get some bites!!

I am indeed fishing. I was hoping that some repair firm or IR conversion outfit might be able to use it for spare parts.

I made it as clear as possible what I have for sale. I offer it for about 10% of cost. The IR filter is around a $500 cost when replaced, including labor.

a bit off topic, but how can I avoid this happening to my sensor? What did you do wrong? Free bump!

Comments like this would be better suited for a PM. Think about this the next time you post something for sale.

The 1ds-mk3 sensor is the easiest to damage of all Canon sensors. Before auto clean, the IR filter was resting on top of the next filter so it had support. All of the auto clean models have the IR filter placed above the next filter with a gap. But the 1DS-mk3 is the thinnist and largest IR filter so also weakest.

Also, the non 1-series are not sealed so they can have just the IR filter replaced, so less costly to repair.

My suggestion is to not use wet cleaning on the 1DS-mk3.

This is why I will never attempt a wet clean of my 1Ds, this is painful to look at! WoW!

What aXXX! I know a astro-photography club that might be interested. They are constantly ripping cameras apart. Good luck. I'll pass the thread across to them.

People who are mechanically inclined? Replacing this filter sounds pretty easy imo. I've bought and repaired two broken Rebel XT's before. I'm also thinking about buying a 300D and converting to IR. I'm not in the repair business and I doubt that I am very unique. Think before posting. If I wasn't unemployed I'd consider buying this.

Good luck with sale.

Ben:

At least you saw some of my "tongue in cheek" comments.

Others were really offended.

Actually, I'm in a repair business, not cameras, and used and broken parts would only have meaning to the repairman.

I really think that more repair/parts types would look on eBay and may pay more then you are asking.

The one thing I avoid in cleaning the sensor is applying the liquid and swab. A blower and arctic brush work best for me.

Actually the new one arrived dirty, so I returned it to be cleaned, and Canon said they cleaned it to factory specs. I did not see any difference so now I have about 5 spots to clean on every image.

In a few months, I will have a local professional clean it to my specs.

Ben, I think that experience of yours merits a dedicated topic on the Canon Gear Forum.
The consequence of cracking one of those is quite dear. The more 1DsMkIII users know about it, the better.
