Open any of the Creative Suite applications; Photoshop CS4 for example. In the menu bar go to Help > Deactivate and a dialog box will pop up. Choose if you want to erase your serial number from the computer, then click the Deactivate button in the lower right corner.
Now uninstall your software; I like the freeware Revo Uninstaller since it can be configured to remove all traces of Adobe software.

Interesting. I didn’t know that. I downloaded the trial of CS3, then bought the CD. I’ve never even opened the CD. Just got the serial number off the container the CD comes in. I assumed I was going to have to stick the CD in if and when I step up to CS4.
