Just got a G1 4/3 Micro and my FD adapter gave it a quick tryout. It's nice to be able to use my FD lens digitally with Infinity focus available, even if it is a 2x crop.

Feel free to also show pictures and comments with other lens besides FD used on the 4/3. I just realized tonight that I can also mount non Nikon G lens to my Panasonic as I have Canon's metal Nikon F mount to FD mount adapter. I stuck that on the fromt of the FD-4/3 adapter and mounted a Zeiss ZF lens.

Finally, some interest in the G1!

FD50L photos look good.

Any comment on the corner performance. GetDPI forum is critical of this.

Thanks for comment on the 50L. That was my favorite FD lens for years. No comment yet as conditions weren't the best for these first shots, nightfall setting in and just taking it out on a trial run, without tripod. I plan on giving it a good run through with all my FD lens and tripod mounted.

Ha! Thats what my old 7.5mm FD fisheye looks like via digital capture. I'm considering adding a G1 too for my old FD lenses. Did your adapter come from Cameraquest or Jinfinance or ?

I look foward to your G1 images via the vast array of FD glass you have onhand Robert.

Hi Lindy Cameraquest adapter Stephen had one in stock, it took awhile to get the adapter to work, its just simple turning but not straight forward. Not a problem with good ole 10038 since there is no aperture pin or lever to use so its aperture worked from get go, but the others I kept getting wide open only or partially closed down. Now I am able to get it everytime as long as I take the adapter off the camera.

The 7.5 was the first lens I tried on the G1.

The G1 and other's to follow will give new life to the FDs. Buy 'em while you can afford to--look at the prices of C-mount movie lenses--especially the wide ones.

Do you get a focus confirmation when using a manual lens like the FD?

For example, with my Canon 5D and a MF TSE lens I will get an AF confirmation when I get the lens into focus.

Or do you just rely on the LCD?

There is a lot of noise in the first picture and the picture of the bench. What ISO were they shot at?

Based on the EXIF, those are both at ISO 3200 nominal (Due to the G1's rather pessimistic ISO ratings, that's closer to ISO 5000 in reality, the G1's ISO ratings are about 2/3 of a stop under what's actually going on). In general I find ISO 1600-2000 to be the practical limit on the G1 for colour work. 3200's usable in B&W.

Just rely on the LCD or Electronic viewfinder.

With the FD lens corners seemed to be okay. I didn't try the kit lens yet.

I only had the old AE-1 'kit' lens of 50 f/1.8 but decided to buy an adaptor (bought the Cameraquest which most believe is same as Rayqual) and bought a 24 f/2.8 from KEH. I'm really enjoying using both with the G1---MF is SO easy. I"m used to a reasonably decent VF with the 5D, but this is wonderful. Some have complained about very low light, but with practice--works great. Without it--one wouldn't be able to focus at all

Thanks Diane for showing your picts they add a nice quality to the old FD lens in B+W. Look forward to seeing more of your pictures.

I am hoping that the G1 and successors will take alternate lens to new heights. I just ordered all the adapters and a bunch of different lenses to try. I have the Panasonic adapter coming from Taiwan. That should enable me to put on some 4/3 lenses including the Panasonic Leica Summilux 25 mm f1.4. I have this adapter that will mount my Nikkor lenses to the 4/3 camera which should mate up with the Panasonic adapter which mate up with the micro 4/3 G1. I ordered two different Canon FD lens to the G1 adapter and a couple of Canon FD lens. I have the M42 to G1 adapter coming so I can mount any M42 lens to the G1. I have the Leica M mount to G1 adapter coming so I can get all the Leica M lens, well I am not that rich so I will settle on a couple of Voigtlander M lens for the G1.

Now this is getting very exciting. So far the G1 is working out well with the kit lens.

I've been trying to find a less expensive 4/3rds to m4/3rds--they all (exept B & H which is sold out--$139) are $170-over $200. If I had the 4/3rds adaptor it would give me a bit more flexibility. Other adaptors are coming down in price as there is some competition--not sure why Panasonic has the only 4/3rds to m4/3rds available (though someone told me that jinfinance on ebay is going to offer one).

The 4/3rds to m43 adaptor includes electronics (the mounts are compatible but not identical, the m43 spec has 2 extra contacts). Hence the cost.

Thanks. I just checked jinfinance on ebay and he states that he will have the 4/3rds to m4/3rds adaptor LESS the electronic connections soon. Since the lenses I'm interested in would be MF, that would be fine for them. However--if I would consider any of the several Oly lenses (like the 9-18), then I would obviously need the connections for AF, etc.

Ahhhhhh---guess I will have to make up my mind. Perhaps---IF--Panasonic comes out with its 7-14 f/4 soon (or at least gives us a date) I can make up my mind. If I need the adaptor as the link to using other alternative adaptors (the 2 adaptor method), then I wouldn't need the more expensive one.

I wonder how well a Four Thirds adapter without electronics would work, considering all Four Thirds lenses have electronic aperture with no physical control, and many have electronic focus-by-wire. It seems to me that without electronics in the adapter you'd lose both aperture AND focus control.

As an aside, I wish Panasonic would get on with the video-capable body. I'd like to buy a G1 to replace my E-510, but the thought of a G1 and video camera merged into one is too alluring for me to buy the G1. That is, assuming this new video-capable body is a decent video camera. The current DSLRs with video don't really impress me.

I would use it for an adaptor in order to use other adaptors with it. I'm not sure I would buy an Oly lens--but that's sort of up in the air depending upon what is annouced at PMA I guess. We know that the 20 f/1.7 is due in the Fall. If the 7-14 f/4 comes out this Spring, I may not need any more lenses. I have the 2-FDs and may consider buying an M adaptor instead if I can find the one other lens I would like to have. Then--eventually, we assume, Oly will annouce their m4/3rds and we also assume a few lenses. That would do the trick for me (esp. since I have quite a few Canon mounts for my 5D, so I'm not without lots of options).
