Anyone know anything about or have 16pt business cards? I wanted to know if there is much difference between 16pt and 14pt. I think 14pt is the average, right? Thanks!

Are you asking about 16 point (a measure of the size of the type) or 16 pound (the weight of the paper)?

I think he is referring to the thickness of the card.

Nobody should use 16 point type on a card unless it is a watermark.

16pt is heavier than 14pt, but not by much. It's not really that significant of a difference.

Having worked in a commercial printing operation for many years, pt refers to the weight of cover paper, lb refers to weight of text paper. GSM is an unofficial weight measurement as well . . . us Americans like pt and lb for some reason . . .

Thanks to Spencer for the clarification.

I've heard that 16pt makes quite a difference but I'd go with Spencer's opinion in that. It seems that 14pt from one printer to another can be a big difference depending on the quality of the paper, printing methods, etc. Depending on who you're ordering from, you might ask for a sample of both.

Considering the fact that 14pt and 16pt roughly cost the same amount with most online printers, it's a no brainer to go with 16pt.

I got 16pt cards from www.gotprint.com, very nice. The reason I went with 16pt was due to the fact they were the only card to come in a matte finish from them. I love them.

I was also thinking of using them for my next design. I keep hearing great things about them. $15-$20 for 1000 cards 16pt cards is pretty slick.

Agreed. Are there additional weights of paper that are heavier then the 16pt for biz cards or this pretty thick in your opinion? Didn't see anyone online that offers higher. Just Crane & Co, but not sure about their exact measurements, and of course, $$$.

I got one better, just go to their site and sign up for a sample. Gotprint will send you a whole packet of samples to see, touch and smell. Best way to see the difference.

I found this thread when I was looking for the difference between 14pt and 16pt on google search.

These cards are from materials.uzmarketing.com/business-cards/. I took a picture, 14pt on the left, 16 pt on the right, and a USA 1 cent coin for size reference.

It's hard to see the difference visually, but the 16pt has a much sturdier feel to it than the 14 pt, and isn't as flimsy. Naturally, that's expected.

Thought it would be worth adding some info to this thread. Sorry for reviving an ancient thread. Feel free to delete if it doesn't provide value

I bought a stack of 500 from Vistaprint 2 years ago.

I think I handed out 5 of them in that time.
