Well, it wasn't a good year in terms of DSLR market share for Canon. They let Nikon steal the thunder as far as I'm concerned. Partly product, but mostly marketing to blame (or lack thereof). With that said, Canon did fine all things considering.
I'm not sure Canon let Nikon do anything... Canon's lead was always gonna be very hard to defend from any company and we have no idea what its strategy was. I know I saw more ads for the Xsi than any competing Nikon camera in the last year
That said, I think Canon remains the innovator in the dSLR sector. Just look at the 5D2... a technology leader in many respects. And this year will see a 1D4 that might well leave the D3 in the dust in the PJ camera sector.

Pah i fail to see how reduced profit is trouble.
If you want trouble i suggest you go down to the large majority of small business's that are shutting daily and talk to some of the work staff who no longer have jobs and are going to start to struggle to provide for the family.
You guys aren't looking at the big picture. Profits for fiscal '08 were only down 37%, profits for Q4 were down 91%. It's a matter of trends. We're not talking about other companies, do 100 bad fiscal years make 100 ok fiscal years?

www.fairtax.org will help with bringing businesses to the country. Oh and that bang on idea of bringing them back isn't a new idea.
Regressive proposal. Hate it.
The upper income tax bracket in the US was 90% and higher for many, many years, and the country grew fine, and wealth still accumulated. In the last few decades it's hovered in the mid thirty percent or so, and "that party" still screams and fights like crazy about a point or two either way, like it's killing anyone with an upper income. It really insults ones intelligence.
If canon is in trouble the easy remedy is, sack 5,000 workers and when they release the 1dmk4 charge an extra $1k on the old 1d3 price.
The lay-offs will help the share price which is all the company worries about.
Upping the price of the 1d4 in a poor economy, where work for photogs will be tight, they need to keep up with the latest technology to be different from everyone else.
Or they could go to Wall St see if they can get some of the easy cash that is being handed out the the executives, for doing such a good job at the banks in the last year

Hey mate, I'm with you. But sometimes people get dragged into them, kicking and screaming.
Yeah s'pose you're right Charles - a bit like our little heatwave here in Adelaide. 43C again today and here it is 10.15pm on Friday night and it's still 31C and the forecast for the next few days aint no better - oh well

What really insults ones intelligence is when idiot politicians define wealthy as making $150K, $200K, or $250k per year.
I agree that wealthier people should pay more, but right now they carry almost the entire burden. I also think everyone should pay taxes, and currently 1/3 of us households don't pay anything. The top 10% carry almost the entire burden, and the top 1% pay 40% of the income taxes collected.
I always laugh when i hear some idiot politician complaining that most tax cuts go to the "rich". Of course they do, they pay almost all the taxes!
I realize that taxes will need to go up, but hate to see the government confiscate the majority of ones earnings.

I'd recommend going right out and buying a Seagate Barracuda hard drive, then. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google "Seagate firmware brick."
Man, back when I was doing film...tap water in Honolulu runs a constant 72 degrees, year 'round. I never needed a thermometer for black and white processing.
