I agree with the observation made in the linked post......a profit is a profit in this day and age. I don't think I'll lose too much sleep over Canon's profit drop.
Well, a profit is a profit, you've made your wages and you're not hungry. So you, or rather the shareholders, won't eat so much Caviar, Opilio Crab and won't wash it down with $1,000 bottles of bubbly.
You'll [Canon] still eat well at cheaper restaurants and may have to holiday at home, it's the patriotic thing to do anyway now, that's the new buzz words.
And know what, the new world president's idea of bringing all American foreign industries home ~ is bang on the money. We all need to produce our own stuff, maybe Canon can hire a production facility for the US domestic market from Bill or Craig in Washington.
Imagine that, the new Canon 1DMKIV, Made In the USA.

Well, it wasn't a good year in terms of DSLR market share for Canon. They let Nikon steal the thunder as far as I'm concerned. Partly product, but mostly marketing to blame (or lack thereof). With that said, Canon did fine all things considering.

Being in the black is still being in the black, regardless of if it's $1 or $1,000,000,000. If you're able to turn a net profit in this economy you're still Ok.
Canon is in "trouble" just like every other major company in the US or the world because we are in a serious global recession. Toyota lost money for the first time this year. Canon is a big,diversified company and did not lose money because of what Nikon did.
If you want trouble i suggest you go down to the large majority of small business's that are shutting daily and talk to some of the work staff who no longer have jobs and are going to start to struggle to provide for the family.
