p.1 #1 · Lx-3 and G10 master samples thread

Thought it might be a good idea to have a place where people can post their Lx-3 and G10 pictures.

All pictures are welcome. People, landscape, candid, macro... you name it!! Please indicate which camera you're shooting with though.

Let it roll!!!

G10. Don't really like the bulk and sold it after 1 month without much usage.

Beautiful pictures and skin tones, David. Did you use LR or CS to process them? Is there a preset you used to get those skin tones on the Lx3?

I use LR and just play.

You're referring to the tongue shot I presume

LX3 purchased somewhat on impulse. Still trying to figure out where it will fit into my work. I also considered the Canon but decided on the LX3 due to the smaller size, 24mm equivalent and faster lens. I wasn't really looking for a lot of zoom or high MP, rather something that will work well indoors. I agree though, it needs better support at the OS level (in my case from Apple). I've been playing around with Silkypix for RAW conversions and it's quite a nice program. I'd consider buying it for my Canon RAW files, but not for $150. That was the other appeal to the G10... it would easily fit into my current workflow with DPP...

So far I haven't used it all that much...

The following files were all RAW captures processed through Silkypix, including hue adjustments (to get the orange lockers just right) and minor perspective and distortion fixes.

Bought the LX3 because it was the first P&S that was small (compared to a dSLR) but offered all of the manual goodness that I craved...it offers a fast wide lens, IS, and manual controls. Here is a handheld night shot...

A couple of recent ones with the G10, from first time I took it for a spin underwater. It certainly seems to perform pretty well in most regards, speed was the only real issue, but that was only a problem with fast-moving things like seals.

Love my LX-3. Some of these using the WA adapter. All processed with Silkypix.

I have both the G10 and LX3. They are both a lot of fun to shoot with. Enjoy taking both out on my landscape outings, along with my DSLR's.

These three were all handheld with the G10.

Any chance of some 100% crop samples? It would be nice to see how these images hold up in the corners and edges?

The G10 feels better in the hand, a nice steady little brick. Both IS systems are very effective from my tests, and make very effective little hand holding cameras.

Dynamic range can certainly be worked with both cameras. Shooting RAW has been a must, because I've had to tweak the WB in all of these in LR 2.2. I love to process, and these were all certainly worked in LR and PS. I was very surprised to see how "grainy" the LX3's RAW files are though in LR. Certainly have to work the noise at base ISO's.

The lens speed and range of the LX3 fits my landscape style in the field with DOF and perspective very efficiently.

Last but not least, I believe the Pany has the "sharper" lens I have enlarged a few of these in the 11x17 range, and they make very nice prints next to my DSLR prints of the same size. Both of these cameras will give you what you put into them

ISO 800. I applied max chroma NR in Silkypix, but not much luminance NR... and also +0.75 exp. comp... so yeah, the ceiling area is falling apart in that image. I haven't bothered to try any other NR for it. I think ISO 800 on the LX3 is reasonable except in situations like this one with a lot of smooth, non-detailed areas where the noise tends to stand out.

The other images are ISO 400, except the last one of the blinds is ISO 100. But at that size you won't see a difference.

I agree with Brian that I've been very impressed with the LX3's IS. There are other photos I did in the office environment shown above that were hand held at around 1/10 sec (the photo in question above was at 1/13 braced against the mirror) and look really good. The image of the door and waste basket was at 1/5 second braced against the chair in the next photo...
