Donīt get hopes up! Great gear doesnīt produce great photos. I am not an experienced wide angel shooter. I love the perspective though. The 21 was just a bit to tight. The 18 is perfect in my eyes.

I have just picked it up. 30 minutes ago. It is really a sweet thing. Smooth controls and a front element to drown in :-)

Hey congrats and welcome to the club!

I mentioned in another thread my local camera shop has a 18mm f3.5 for around $600. Very tempted by it but need to convince the wife I can have one

I'm going to pick the lens up today and see how it is. I was undecided before but I've just received a HappyPage adapter for using a Contax 35-70 3.4 on my Canon and the different between the Contax and the 24-105 I was previously using is stunning.

The Canon lens was (to put it bluntly) crap... horrendous around the edges and flat in the centre but the Contax is so vibrant and sharp across the frame.

Anden,

How about some corner crops from the first shot?
Can you find someone locally with the Nikon 14-24G to do some comparison testing?
Glad you are enjoying the lens.

Wayne,

I donīt know anyone in the area with a 14-24.
As good as the mighty nikkor might be the size kills the deal for me.
I want small and light.

As for corners, I will see what I can do later. At work now.

I had the Zuiko 18/3.5, and sold for the Nikon 14-24G. My copy of the Zuiko was top notch, as is my copy of the Nikon. To get the best out of the Zuiko a well matched adapter can be required. I used a Kindai adapter that worked perfectly. I found the Nikon better at 18mm up to about f/5.6, but around there I prefer the Zuiko's output. The two lenses have a different look to them, with different strengths and weakneses.

The Zuiko is always better in that it is tiny and a feather weight in comparison. It takes 72mm filters with the standard Olympus hood, has fully stepped manual aperture when adapted for Canon (not available on the Canon adapter for the Nikon), and is just nicer to work with on a Canon body. The Zuiko performance wide open is excellent, but not technically perfect. Vignetting is the biggest problem, but that can be left for effect on the picture, or adjusted in PP.

The Nikon is always better in that it covers 14-24mm, has a f/2.8 across that focal length, and has less vignetting. To fully appreciate using the lens, a Nikon mount DSLR body is required

If you want a crazy front element, nothing beats the 24/shift I think. ;-) It's like an 18mm for a Medium-format image circle. (the design is actually pretty similar).

And I was the lucky recipient/buyer of Paulīs superb copy, currently a mainstay in my daily bag I will always take it out over the 17-40, my other superwide.

Love it :-) I wish I dared take off the "stepup" ring and protective filter, as it looks so good like this.
