'monkey's lost it. In an effort to amuse myself (3 days of paint fumes notwithstanding)
I set out to see what I could do with the 200-400 f4 VR and 1.4x TC using the D2X in crop mode.
(HSC in Nikon speak) and somewhere between 980 and 1100mm Sandy and I had a go of it.
Straight OOC so forgive poor comps and BG noise...but 'monkey's got a new drug! Thx as always!!
Handheld w/honorable modded BushHawk. Wide open, this time around.

Nothing too wrong with this set for what you were doing to get these Monkey. That glassy eye sure looks sharp in each one of them I am questioning your -.7 exp comp as I would figure with that light BG you would have had to go the other way Whatever maybe that is a Nikon thing

Hey, no one harder to please than ones self, if you are happy and having fun, well then so am I I can't tell you how bored I am buddy, it is getting reaaaal bad right now! Keep me amused you fume sniffing crazed crane shooting Monkey

I was just seein' what I could get away with today, I'd probably never use the HSC for a money shot

Brisk on the D2X, fast on the D300, instant on the D3. Pretty amazing chunk o' glass, Nello. Thanks, man!

As usual, I found them all excellent, especially those of the birds in flight.
For my taste Will I like to burn-in the foregrounds just a bit to emphasize the birds. It is a matter of taste and has nothing to do with your excellent photographs.
I know these are out of camera shots and no editing has been done but when you have the time give my tip a try. You could like what you will see. By toning down the bright areas emphasis is placed on the birds.

Hi William, glad you liked them...and thanks for the tip! They're a little noisy and not tack sharp so
I probably won't be using HSC with the zoom in the future. I'll have to give your idea a go with some "keepers"
