p.1 #1 · Pinky Madam BBQ

Kansas City is a big BBQ town, and the rule to live by is "Cook it low and cook it slow." So here's Pinky Madam, BBQ-style.

Zuiko 135 f4.5 @f45, ISO 100, no flash. Camera in bulb mode, remote timer. Four minute exposure.

Pretty sure I couldn't get this hand-held.

David, only ANT could pull off the handheld 4min shot

I like the layout of this shot a lot David. It flows nicely from left to right however the right side I think suffers from the petal being squared off. All the lines here are curved and continous and very very nicely flowing. A very soft creamy feel to this with a touch of 'aging' to it. I presume this will continue its journey and become a 'dried floral' masterpiece at a later date Great pinks and creamy whites!

By the way, I can't stop thinking about BBQ now

So, David, this is how you get your dried flowers. You just BBQ them.
This Pinky Lady has a very pleasing array of pink tons. I believe though you posted it in RGB space and not everybody may be able to enjoy this subtle tonality of pinks.
Four minutes? That would put me to sleep. Great job as usual!

Kansas City hummm David ahhh my Fort Riley days and 16 weeks of heavy weapons infantry training and no drill sargent ever showed us any flowers like this or even ask about having a BBQ. As for your flower it looks very sharp and deep with some shadows where I guess they should be. Not being to much onn flowers I like it.... now lets see that was highway 40 wasn't it from Fort Riley to K.C. Weekend passes if you were a good soldier. Ummm Memories

Beautiful shot, David. Is that a bit of dust or something I see on the petal near the upper-right corner? If so, you might 'shop it out.

Also, is it me, or is there a bit of noise in the image? Is that just long-exposure noise?

Thx Karl, I always look forward to your critiques. I sacrificed the edges of the bloom to pick up the texture in the lower front.

Thx, Socrate, I haven't actually TRIED roses in the smoker yet, but next time I pick up a rack of ribs...

Thx Maggie, I'm watching Miss Pinky closely for more shooting ops. Couple of more years and she'll be great for dried flora.

THX, Lou. You'd probably be surprised to see how little good old US40 has changed over the years. They've made a few updates to Ft Riley, though -

Thx as always, Tim, I agree, with a little clean-up, this would be nice big. These little dried roses print up very nicely, and I have quite a collection now.

Thx, Garen, glad you enjoyed it. This kind of shot isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Thx, Andrew, yes, there's a dog hair on the upper right petal, and it will be cloned out before this one goes to print. Our little long-exposure twinklies will as well. Four minutes is pushing the edge of the envelope in a lighted room, and you don't escape much at f45.
