p.1 #1 · Where Can I See Great Pictures Taken By 1DsMarKIII

Maybe my question is weird, but I see a lot of excellent pictures taken by photographers who use 5D and 5DII. Pictures from 1DsMarkIII, wich is supposed to be a better camera (maybe not that much, but a little), do not give me the same WOW feeling, even with the same lens. Am I wrong or is it because excellent photographers with 1Ds3 don't share there work or maybe files from 1Ds3 don't pop on web ?

Some of these shots were taken at 12800 iso.

And here's a link to a highrez file, but don't kill my server if your interest is only casual...

I don't see any less pop from my 1Ds3 as I saw from my 5D's, but I do see more detail, better tonal range, and far greater resilience to exposure and contrast controls in post processing.

I shot the holiday bowl with just my 1DsIII. I had no need for a sports body since the 1DsIII will do both sports and studio. It would have been difficult to shoot with the 5D or 5DII.

Nice shots Ben. You're right - a 1Ds3 will do anything you ask of it. Except video...

Just been archiving a lot of 5D and 1Ds3 shots from the past year... I don't see any difference in "pop" between these two cams... However, I see way better color and deeper shadows on the 1Ds3 files...

Maybe because (1) there are way fewer 1Ds3s than 5D(2)s, and (2) the users are less braggy

With 3 or 4 exceptions, everything on the New Pages of my website was shot with a 1DsMkIII. You can determine whether you think they "pop" or not but personally, I don't think you are going to see much of a difference between the two cameras at web sized viewing or even in most prints. Both can produce outstanding images and other factors are more likely to impact image quality than differences in sensors or algorithms. (That doesn't mean that both cameras are equal or will produce the same image under all circumstances.)

I've seen plenty of XT shots with "pop", nevermind the 1DsIII. Most "pop" is about good lighting, IMO, although large aperature + FF does yield more subject isolation and makes "pop" easier.

Here's a 40D shot with "pop"....

I always liked Mahesh Thapa's pics, IIRC he posted on DPR that he used a 1DSII or probably a 1DSIII by now.

Brainiac: Loved the tush shot. Didn't care what camera you shot it with.

OP: Great pictures originate from the photographer, not the camera. I've been trying to make this point forever on FM. Unfortunately the pixel-peepers are relentless.

Mahesh posts in the Landscape forum quite a bit; you can see his work there also. Seems to me he was shooting with a 1Ds3, but recently switched over to a D700. There was a b/s post a little while back with LOTS of Canon equipment.

Here are a few from over the hollidays of the family. I believe these were all taken with the 85 1.2 or 17-40L . As you can see the camera takes pictures.

Since some people don't feel the need for photos I have removed mine. Pop comes from a combination of processing, light, depth of field. ect.

No it's Nice, and I got a strong sense that she was French, but that's a guess. If she were English I think you would be more likely to see the top half of her arse (bulging out of those horrible hipster jeans), rather than the nether half. The gentleman on the left is probably British though, as he looks to be of Indian ethnicity rather than Indochinois or African.
