Yesterday was our first bridal show of the year. This is going into year 7 and 20 shows behind us. Dennis and I decided to do a drawing for a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. On our form we asked them to check the following,,,
1. I have hired a photographer or know who I will be hiring.
2. I am not hiring a photographer. ( )
3. I am looking for a photographer and you may contact me to set up an appointment ( ) Or, I will contact you.( )
There were approximately 350 brides that attended the show of which 75 registered for the drawing. We found that about 32% have hired a photographer
45% said they were looking for a photographer and they would contact us.
23% said that we could contact them to set up an appointment. This gives us some insight as to how many brides are actually looking for a photographer and the percentages of weddings we may book after spending $1500.00 for this show.
Here are the images we displayed.

This is pretty place. There were other photographers that showed shots of this location, but not from this angle or this large. It was recognized instantly by a lot of the brides. 24x36 image

A wedding planner liked this one. She thought the lights would cause them to do a double take. I almost didn't take it because it was too grainy, but Dennis reminded me that the reason we enlarge certain images is so that a potential client will see herself in that shot.

In addition to these images, we printed 44 8x10's for a traditional Renaissance Album.
Two new flush mount albums
We had two of our brides to come and act as referrals and to answer any questions.
Here is a picture of the booth with Dennis and our two brides. http://photographybydennis.com/FM/dennisbooth.jpg

Comments welcomed. I know what's most important is what the brides thought and how many bookings we get, but ideas for the next show is appreciated. Thanks, Yvette
We did two show last year but won't do them any more. They seemed to attract a lot of budget brides or brides looking for a deal, so we opted out of doing them any more.
We will do some with our side studio since the prices on those shooters will be lower.
Do you find that there is a certain price range that brides at shows in your area are in? Is it high or low?

Sorry we can't be of more help!

I believe there are all budget ranges at the show. We always ask the location of the wedding and reception. A bride has to have a decent size budget to have a reception at the Hotel that we displayed. The mountain location is just for ceremonies and the weddings we have done thus far have ended with a reception at a nice hotel.
Yesterday at this show, I was more surprised at the number of brides that did not have a location under contract. After doing my survey, I feel I actually have the possiblity of booking 10 weddings from this show by taking budget into consideration. This morning I received one email (already booked), and while typing this, I got another. I called and set the appointment. With all the money invested, I can only keep my fingers crossed. Y
