A few shots from the Holiday Bowl here in San Diego on 12/30
I also included some pregame and misc shots. I was blasting some Coldplay while sorting through the shots at around midnight, so I did some heavy handed editing on a few. All were shot with the 1DsIII and a 16-35mm 2.8 II or 300mm 2.8 IS. I really enjoy using the "s" for shooting sports. At 5fps, it is plenty fast enough since it's all about the timing anyways. I never felt I lost any shots during the game. It was amusing hearing the photographers cranking away taking tens of shots for each I shot with the "s" and using good old fashion timing.
Holy cow, Ben! I remember watching that Oregon rushing play with the leap over the defender. Quite a photograph! IIRC, that play was one of the last few plays that sealed the deal for OSU's defeat.
One of the more interesting see-saw scoring games I've seen recently. Nice job capturing it!

Thanks Ryan. I didn't think I had that shot until I was checking afterwards. I saw it in the viewfinder, so I figured I might have missed it. I guess that proves that the viewfinder blackout on the s is pretty quick.
It was a fun game to shoot, but from a photographic point of view it was a pain in the ass. I have no clue how many times I had to haul ass from one endzone to the other, but it was about 4x the normal amount of endzone to endzone trips.

Ben,
Great stuff ! # 4 is tremendous.
Thanks for sharing,
Bryan
Thanks Bryan. I owe that shot to the 300 2.8. Back when I was shooting a 400, I had a hard time getting the timing right. I think it was because I was shooting from a monopod which made me less mobile. Also, The 400 blocks the vision with my left eye much more than the 300. With the 300, I can just point and shoot and get the timing down. I suppose one could handhold the 400 as well, but it would get old really fast!
