This is my first attempt at doing an HDR, it is of silo number 5 in the old port of Montreal. Feedback is very welcome since I know it is far from perfect and I am always looking at ways to improve.
I like the idea behind this shot, but it has some problems. They are not related to the HDR, though.
What bugs me is the perspective & the distortion, which are probably related, but still two different issues.
First, there's the angling-in of the sides, which I assume is caused by your WA lens. Surely that can be massaged a bit in post.
The other problem has to do with taking the shot on an angle like that. (with the face of the main building not flush) that always causes odd perspective problems, though I see why you chose this spot.
Last, or maybe due to the above, the shot doesn't seem level. I'm not sure what "level" would actually be in this pic, due to the above distortions, but it just feels off.
I think if you worked on this for a while, with correction software, you could make it a lot more solid.
As for the exposure, seems fine to me. The colors pop, the detail is great all over, and I see no obvious "transition" area. Many HDR's fail (IMO) because they look fake. This one seems quite solid in that respect.
I see what you are saying about the angle, and the level thing is a known issue with me... I just seem to have problems with it. As for the distortion from a WA lens, I am not sure that is what is there since I was using a 24-70 at 62mm focal legth, I am pretty sure it is more the angle.
I will play with the picture some more and see if I can get it looking right.
