The second is a bit too much of a portrait for my taste, but I really like the first shot because it shows context. The white snow and the threatening darkness of the river....shiver me timbers.
In a broader sense it makes me wonder about the mental stability of people who go kayaking on an extremely cold river in the middle of winter.
