Well done. A nice balance in the shot between the menorahs (is that correct plural or is it menoriim) and your daughter. Light is perfect.

The lighting on her face is perfect! And the catch-lights are great! And the all-blue... the exclamation!
Great shot.
Happy Hanukkah!

Thanks so much, Marc. i appreciate you taking time to comment and I'm glad you like it. It would be Menorim but to be absolutely accurate it would have to be Hanukkiyot. Happy New Year!

All the best,

Endre

Beautiful lighting!

May I ask how it was lit?

Thanks. So glad you like it. Yes, you may ask, but I won't tell.

Seriously, I had my trusty sheet of black velvet for a background. All the Hanukkiyot were on a piece of aluminum foil on the table which helped reflect light and protect from dripping wax. Then I bounced my on-camera flash off the ceiling. Pretty simple but effective.

Happy New Year!

Endre

Hello Endre,
Happy Holidays to you.
What a great shot! The lighting is lovely as well as the contemplative expression you've captured of your daughter. It serves to remind us all of the roots of the holidays, and that it's not supposed to be just about commercialism. Nice work as usual.

Strad, do I understand correctly that you used a piece of aluminum foil to reflect the light on her face? The shot is lovely! You are very good with Light! It's nice how her clothing goes right along with the theme colors!

Take Care,
Michelle

Thank you, Michelle. I'm so happy you like it. Yes, I did have aluminum foil beneath the candles, however it's primary purpose was to keep candle wax from falling onto the table. Secondarily, it also added light to her face. The bulk of the light, however, comes from the bounced flash off the ceiling. It just happened that she was wearing the perfect outfit. Getting my kids to change clothes or comb their hair for a shot is a major production, so I was just lucky when it came to her clothing. Here's a shot of the whole setup. I did a little bit of burning in of the foil beneath because it was too distracting.

Happy New Year!

All the best,

Endre

Just perfect!
What a gift your daughters will have if they have children of their own some day -
a whole collection of portraits of mother, done by grandfather the master photographer.
