That's just what fits in the laptop sleeve that comes with it. You can see from the pic that there's another good 2" of room. I'd bet that you could fit something a bit bigger in that pocket without the sleeve.
The challenge would be the width of the laptop, but almost all modern laptops are widescreen, so they are wider and shorter in height than when this bag was designed.

According to the 2nd review on the BH page, this guy's 17" Macbook fits in there fine.
