Hi, Conrad. Don't give up on us too soon! Sometimes it just takes a bit longer to get a response.
The long exposure is terrific. I can see the star trails. Looks like a pretty calm night, too, considering the water is not all that soft for a long exposure. I'd like to see more detail on the structure in the right of the frame, however. I can't quite make out enough to know for sure what is what.
As for the framing, in checking your gear, it looks as though 16 is your widest lens. I don't know what you shot at, but the structure is cut off, and I think it need to be fully included without losing the great lights on the left. Also, I'd like to see the top of the structure not cut off. So, I think it's okay, but maybe you were limited by what your gear would allow in the frame. Was there room to step back a bit? If so, I'd suggest giving it another go with those thoughts in mind.
That's my two cents here.
Conrad
I really like long exposures. I think the image was too dark to show that kind of advantage in the water. The city (?) lights kind of obscure the foreground structure enough to see the boat's hull. If you could open the shadows up a bit, it would be easier to critique. I like what I see, but can't see enough to really evaluate the shot.
Thank you very much! I'll go back soon and reshoot perhaps from a different angle as well to bring out more detail. Choppier water will make it look better too I think!
