There are all sorts of FREE presets on line that can be found using Google. The link was just on the Post Processing board and has over 600 free presets:

Are presets the same thing as actions? I use CS3 so I don't speak that Lightroom language yet

Anyone use them that can share their feedback?

You can't use presets in Photoshop. Lightroom only. They are similar to actions. More versatile in some ways, less in others.

THanks Tony.

Everyone, now that we're in the subject, anyone who's used both Lightroom and CS3 care to talk about what you prefer best?

I'd google it out but I'll forget and I'm curious to know. I have to expand my software editing skills.

These questions are adressed on the site in the FAQ section. These are compatible with ACR just fine, but the main advantages of using LR is for workflow purposes. Think of applying a whole batch of actions in seconds . . . That's the power of my workflow.

If you have not watched the video yet, I highly recommend it!

ACR is limited with Photoshop Elements, so I did not find it compatible with Elements, but if you have the full version of Photoshop, you can load the presets into it or also with Bridge.

I'll make a rebuttle . . . Presets are NOT compatible with ACR, but Presetopia has both presets for Lightroom and Adobe Camera RAW.

Free presets are for the most part rubbish. Even if there are good ones you be much better off spending $59 and getting a set of great ones that are designed for professional use and saving yourself a ton of time.

Really? I'm all for the free enterprise system but free presets are unprofessional? Presets are nothing more than extraneous xml instructions. I mean, if you created an action for PS instead of buying a "pro" action ... is it less professional?

In reality ALL presets could be considered rubbish whether they are fee based or free. There is no one size fits all when it comes to presets. What will offer the desired effect on an image sample on a paid website, does not always translate to the best option for the image(s) you are currently working on. Every preset is nothing more than a starting point, designed to be modified as needed for the work at hand. There is nothing unprofessional about using a free starting point or creating your own.

I dont think that Chris was implying that because they are free, they are rubish. Trust me, I've looked through many presets before creating my own and never really liked anything. After a while I had people asking me how I did my work and processed it and there was a demand for the presets.

My presets are based on a large number of settings I use on a regular basis. Just because I'm a working pro doesn't make them better, but, the fact that I am a working pro and that the presets are NOT just some files to sell, but options to increase your workflow and creativity, presets that have real world applications to their use.

Spencer, your presets look great. Excellent work as always. I meant no offense to you or your efforts to offer a product to fellow users. You are providing a valuable service that is an asset that reflects your high standards.

As indicated, some don't have a budget currently to take advantage of your product. As with much of what we do, there are many options and solutions. Those solutions are only as amateur or professional as those who use/modify them to create the end image. I have downloaded several dozen free presets and created quite a few of my own since the introduction of LR, I don't think I have ever used any of them without seasoning to taste. It is the blind application of presets and not fine tuning for the individual needs of an image where the rubbish creeps in.

Keep up the great work and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

If you own LR, you shoot weddings and have anything in your bag that has L printed in the lenses, trust me, you can afford $59.
