p.1 #1 · New MD MC SR lens to EOS body adaptor

Just came across few pages here in Japan which advertise the Minolta MD/MC/SR adaptor for EOS bodies (as per topic).
Just wondering if anyone had any sort of experience using or at least evaluating those.

Regards

Most certainly.

Unfortunately, pages are in Japanese and I believe you would get better idea should you translate the page using Google Tran or alternative service rather than reading my poor attemt at translating...

Tempted to order one and test it with few MC lenses on my 350D....

Looks like it has some glass in it. Not promising. A mount conversion would be a better idea.

First one is optical, while 2nd is mechanical only (?) in my understanding.

Well if it's mechanical only you won't get infinity focus, which severely limits the usefulness of the lens.

The adaptor seems to be rather thick compared to M42 one for instance, which may prevent the rear element from hitting the mirror and thus allow the infinity focus.
Certainly, the issue in any case would be the IQ.

And speaking of optical adaptors - isn't Canon FD to EOS optical?

I don't think you quite understand. Attaining infinity focus doesn't really have anything to do with mirror issues, other than just obstructing the mirror. By making the adapter thicker, you reduce the focus distance, and at that thickness I'm sure you would lose infinity focus. This means that even with the lens focused on the infinity mark on the distance scale, the actual focus distance would be closer than infinity. This effect becomes more pronounced with larger focal length.

The adapter for FD to EOS is indeed optical, but only because without optics, there is no way to achieve infinity focus. That's why some people here replace the mount entirely.

You might want to read this to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Thank you for clarifying that and for the link. I am indeed a bit of a vegetable when it comes to using MF lenses on Digital SLRs...especially using the adaptor..

Asking is how one learns.
