Two very different lenses the Sigma f1.4 is $500 and the Canon f1.2L is $1350. You can get 2 1/2 Sigma lens for one Canon. It will be much closer to compare the Sigma f1.4 $500 to the Canon 50 F1.4 $320.
That said, I have both the Sigma 50 mm f1.4 for my Nikon and the Canon 50 mm f1.2L for my Canon and I like them both. I prefer the bokeh from both but I have not done a side by side test because I use the two camera and lens combination for different purposes.
Shirzona, the Sigma is compared to the 50L because the sigma is designed to shoot below f2.
If one is not satisfied with the Canon 50 1.4, the 50L and the Sigma are the two choices that are fully Canon compatible. Look at the dpreview review if you have not already.
I was just wondering in terms of bokeh, assuming you have enough light to shoot anywhere stopped down to f/3 without any problems. If the Siggy 50 gives a better bokeh at 1.4 than the Canon at 1.2, why choose the Canon?
If the serial number is 1016*** is is very much higher than the twolenses I tried (and that Sigma Scandinavia failed to adjust for any of my cameras (a 5D and a 450D)).
1016xxx to be precise, I had to wait 4 weeks to get it, seems to be highly demanded.
I am a bit surprised though that the lens is not sharper stopped down. I cant remember another lens which performed so poor at stops between 4 and 11. I wonder if you or anybody could send me or even post a FF landscape jpg at one of these stops
Thank you for confirming.
A landscape image? Lol. Do I take one or two a year? I checked the bin and found something for you. It's a boring image where I aimed at some distant (about 250-300m away) trees and a military tower at a shooting field. Taken with a 450D (sorry), at f/5.6, uncropped. You can grab it if you want and contemplate:
I never had a problem with details when stopping down. That was with the 450D, a FF camera does better. With the 5D I have only test images, bricks and USAF charts and stuff as the focusing problems made me a bit mad. Sigma tried to fix it, twice. In the end I returned it.
Now I wait for more reports about working lenses. The two copies I tried were both in the serial range of 1001***. Maybe it is time again?
