The 28/2.8 focuses to 0.2m (0.7 feet) for 1:3.9 magnification.
The Tamron 28/2.5 goes to 0.25m (0.83 feet) for 1:5.8 magnification
The 35/1.4 goes to 0.3m (1 foot) for 1:5.6 magnification
One thing to note is that the Tamron is quite noticably smaller than the Nikon 28, about half as long in fact. It's a near-pancake.

The Nikkor 35 f/1.4 bokeh seems to change depend on how close the object is... If you're focussing close, then it's pretty harsh and ugly. If you're a bit away, it's not bad at all. I mean wide open.
I'd say the complete opposite. But due to CRC it changes, that's for sure.

Ah, thanks! The 28 2.8 is very tempting for the close focus distance, the 35 1.4 for the aperture.. :P HARD CHOICES! :P

Get one of each
I received my 35/1.4 a couple of days ago. It's a heavy beast. And unfortunately it has hairline scratches on the rear element, which the seller did not disclose. I guess it has to go back or seller will get negative feedback.
Note that the 28/2.8 AIS is not the same thing as the 28/2.8 AI! The AIS is supposed to be much better, and the AI does "only" focus to 0.3 meters.
I'll probably pick up a 28/2.8 AIS this week, so perhaps I could post some examples before christmas.
Regarding the fastness of the 35/1.4, it is really just a bonus. Sharpness isn't good until f/2.8 anyway, so an f/2 lens with good wide open performance could be more useful. Check out the Nikkor 35/2 AI or AIS if you want something cheap, light and very sharp. You could probably get one for 500 NOK over there.
According to Rorslett, the 35/1.4 is sharper at f/2 than the 35/2. I think it's sharp at 2, very sharp at 2.8 and ridiculously sharp at 4/5.6. At 1.4 its performance is uneven, but getting sharp images is possible:
100% crop:
D200, ISO800 + half stop push in PP (hence the noise). 35/1.4 at 1.4, no sharpning done in post. Sharpening does help a lot, but then D200 is famous for its strong aa-filter.
I got the 28/2.8 AIS today! I've only tried a few wide open shots in the dark, but the results are very very good. It seems as sharp as the 24-70, but has lower distortion. Almost none! Color and contrast is superb, and counterlight doesn't seem to be a problem. I'd say this lens is better wide open than the 35/1.4 @ f/2.8.

Quick anecdote: The guys a tthe local camera shop wanted 9000,- NOK for the 35 1.4 they had... (about 1300 USD). That made me laugh a bit :P
So I guess I'll keep looking at fleebay for a 28 2.0 or 35 1.4 deal
That would be a bit high of a price for Europe for a new 35/1.4 (It's current-production). The 35/1.4 can be had new for $1100CDN.
